I love Schiit's form factor for their separates, real simple but elegant designs. That Modi looks good!

The Peachtree is a powerhouse and even though it's conservatively rated at 80w @ 6ohms, it pushes out a lot more.

Used to run Magneplanar's on a Nova I had as well as some Polk LSI7's on a Decco (the lower powered version). Could run them as loud as you wanted all day with absolutely no distortion.

I have no desire to run near field monitors at my desktop, then again I never had my ears on a quality set either as I'm only used to 2 ch dedicated setups.

Cans for the desktop for me!

One thing I know for sure. If you need antibiotics and your poor, and I was poor with no health insurance at the time go to the pet store, buy fish max it's just low dose amoxicillin. Works great on abscess teeth.

Nice! Nearfields are great for production but general listening I don't see the need versus decent bookshelf setups. (Or headphones) I have some Fluance bookshelf, nothing crazy but they fit the bill, look timeless and work well. I have admittedly toyed with the idea of building my own, I think that would be a fun project. Or start with a good DIY kit and go/modify from there someday.
And I'm with you, I enjoy heaphones at the desktop. Those DTs are great. I've been wearing some cheapish 3rd gen Grados I've had forever and swapped wooden cups onto, its fun going back/starting over with the stuff you started out with sometimes, often really shows how putting in money doesn't always result in a ton of quality gain.

Lewis and Clark’s original expedition across the country. They only lost one guy and it was to rabies they’re pretty sure. Because he freaked out in a boat when they were crossing a river. Hydrophobia is one of the first signs.

Also they say number one way humans get rabies in South America is from cattle.

That’s all the rabies stories I know.

Wild too that there's only been a few dozen documented cases of people surviving rabies infection without the vaccine. It's got a crazy high mortality rate.

Danny Boyle mentioned this re the original 28 Days Later since the disease in it was basically a ramped up version of rabies.
"We had photos from the 1930s of people dying with rabies, and they’re being approached with a bowl of water and the expression on their face when they see this water is absolutely terrified.”

While I've never tried or had dedicated nearfields, I have attempted to run a few bookshelf speakers in a nearfield setup.

    It was terrible.

You can tell they weren't meant for nearfield cause you had no imaging, no soundstage, it was just sound thrown at you up close. I suspect that's part of the reason why many nearfield monitors are active, probably relying both on its amp as well as DSP to image as well as they do up close. Properly setup bookshelves will have similar placement to towers, assuming you place them up on stands to get those tweeters at ear-level.

If you do go the DIY route, you definitely need to post a thread on that!

I've done a DIY preamp, as well as a headphone amp (those old bottle tube kits) but only ever did one speaker and it was a subwoofer.

The driver was sourced from an HSU subwoofer that someone blew the amp out on, so I got the driver for cheap. I'll dig into my album to see if I can find pics.

Your Grados, are they newer or older? Unsure what gen they're on. I ask cause I don't know if you've noticed this but even the premium brands have gone sort of big box store with their quality on anything that's mid-range and below. It's why I didn't buy new Seinnheiser's to replace my old set but instead got my Beyerdynamics. They weren't cheap either which sucked but they should last me a good decade at least.

    @01x4

I remember posting an old thread on two on some HT forums, one of them being a DIY forum or section and still getting shit when I was trying to get T/S parameters on this bad boy. I only had Winisd but didn't have the tools to pull all the "secret numbers".

Forget which forum it was but someone posted the figures as they also made their own subwoofer. I had this thing tuned for either 20hz or 18hz I can't recall.

This was some 15 years ago so ignore the mess and shit lol I was living in Chitown at the time.

That fucker shook everything for home theater but was musical enough to play well with the Maggies.

I was hooked on hitting below 20hz ever since then for HT.

Assembly is flying on your end!

Stoked to see what you go with for your seat and backrest.

You plan to cut the leadscrew down? How long is it?

Definitely going to do a blue leather.

It was 2 ft. I'll cut it possibly after I finish the final assembly.
