Hello to all! New to me 2002 3.4 Tacoma. Did a lot of searching on this but could not find what I’m looking for. I have an ABS light on. Did the paper clip thing and came up with three ABS speed sensors bad and also the ABS module. I can’t believe that all of them failed all at the same time. The vehicle doesn’t seem to be leaking fluids anywhere. I have cleaned the front speed sensors with no change. Looking for any knowledge on something like this. Thank you in advance for any help.

Any other symptoms? I had an ABS light on. The ABS would sometimes activate when it shouldn't and wouldn't when it should have. It turned out to be a bad module. Sent it out for rebuild and it's been perfect ever since.

@Bolt Head nothing that stands out. Just the ABS light on. I was thinking of changing them out. Then when I checked the price, I almost fainted. And I am used to Toyota OEM prices. These specific parts are absolutely ridiculous.

Time for the easiest fix ever: ABS disable mod.

    Step 1: Remove ABS fuse.

Step 2 (optional for OCD folks): Remove ABS warning light bulb behind guage cluster.

Step 3: Relish the satisfaction of knowing you just saved hundreds of dollars and permanently fixed the problem :bananadance:

The price for what? The module?

The speed sensors! I haven’t even looked at the module.

Ok, got ya. Well, if it does turn out to be your module and you want to keep your ABS, I know the module "rebuild" is pretty reasonable $$.

No need to be afraid. I did that to mine around a year and a half ago now, and have had absolutely no regrets. There is literally no noticeable difference in braking performance or in the way the braking system acts at all.

And its always reversible by just plugging the fuse back in.

I removed the 60a fuse but still have the light. Is there another fuse that I need to pull to make the light go out?

On all of the systems I have had the mis-pleasure of looking at there are 2 self tests so I am assuming Toyota is the same. There is a immediate electrical test and then after the vehicle gets above 5 mph there is an actuation test. Does your ABS light light up immediatly or after the truck starts rolling.

It is immediately. I just can’t believe that it’s four of the five things that could set out off. Unless there was some short, but I would think that one of the fuses would blow.

The light is on to "alert" you the fuse is pulled. The system is disabled, mission accomplished. If the light bugs you, then pull it out (thats what I did).

I am a follow the data/diagnose it type of guy in 99% of my repair situations and the 1% of the time is this. I see that Amazon has aftermarket wheel speed sensors for $20. I will plug in a $20 test part first thing and it that sensor fault goes away you have saved diagnose time. If the part was $200, thats a different thing.

I agree, all three at the same time, odd... are there signs of mouse activity anywhere? Where is the ECU for the ABS located in the truck.

It is in the engine bay. I’m with you but this is way down the list of things to fix. The new Toyota ones are over $250 each. The light bothers me, so I will pull it. I need to put a new bulb in the cluster anyway. Thank you all!!!
