Last house, wife wanted and got those. A few months in they needed some kind of update for speed or something. Nearly bricked the piece of shit washer. They came back, got it running marginally, but not the same. They never would re-install the original software. Lesson learned!!

My cousin is a Ford van purist. He bought one of those connects for his electrician business. Then he bought one of the old school cargo vans around 2014 or 15? The E series vans. I think it was like the last model year of them or something?

    He swears by the Fords.

I always wanted a RAM Promaster high top diesel. The gas mileage was incredible. around 24/25. But I believe they stopped making them. Welp and diesel is through the roof in price.

As an IT guy, I have seen my share of botched firmware updates. They can definitely brick a device easily. That's the problem with software developers now, they are so hellbent on changing everything and modding and tweaking and all this bullshit - the QA has gone out the window.

I'm getting worn out by my iPhone, every time I open an app it wants to update. Like we need to go back to app updates every 2-3 months or weeks. Not 1x a week.

"hey you can do this now in 5 clicks! but it might also break!"

    Thanks!

The entire "problem" with software developers and other IT guys is, and always has been, that they design crap to impress other developers instead of making tech useful for the average user.

Interesting observation, one which I do not subscribe to. I started programming in 1972 and started making a living from it in 1978, and in all that time I've never given a fig for what other developers thought, my only job was to make my systems as useful for the intended audience as possible.

Just stick a "some" in there.

The problem is LG. The problem is with their TV and Washers - the interfaces are terrible.

Oh, if only other programmers, engineers, and business owners did that. But it's inherent in the system that people doing the designs know too much and they design to satisfy their own interests and knowledge, and to impress their peers. I don't blame them for wanting to be seen by peers and their employers as brilliant and "forward thinking"... but the net effect is products that have so many bells and whistles that the average (AVERAGE) person doesn't need or want.

Agreed that it's not to impress other developers - I do think the QA process has gone to shit. The problem is, if you burn the end user with a bad update, they won't update anymore. Which has led to companies like Microsoft and others to make updates mandatory and that has opened a whole new can of worms.

What is the answer? I don't know. They'll never offer 2 update paths - one for those who do not want new features but just want security patches and one for those who want new toys to play with.

I've never thought of LG as a particularly great tech company. If only Sony made washers and dryers!

    Good morning

Heading out again on the water in a few minutes, in the coastal morning overcast. The afternoon should be beautiful blue sky's, but not until I'm off the water today.

Good morning from North County San Diego!
Hopefully, a day of little activity following a visit to the spine surgeon, yesterday.
I need to do some Baja Travel Adventure writing (good mental therapy). Perhaps an update about what I found during this year's trip that I had previously visited eight years ago?

I think that trail ends at the Mexican border...? For mountain bikers, there is the Baja Divide Trail... more of a route using various dirt roads that avoid the paved ones. to go down the length of the peninsula.
It is over 1,700 miles long! Link: https://bikepacking.com/routes/baja-divide/

Yeah it does terminate at the border @David K It's further east than I first thought.

I realize both the PCT and AT are very challenging - I guess if I was an avid hiker, I'd wanna do the PCT over the AT. Both offer a different set of insane challenges.
