I like pulling up with the cap on that right side, I don't know, it just feels easy but then again, the way pumps are laid out you may have to circle to get into place with either side.

Im not convinced he’s and a hole.

Poor parking yes, but I’ve been forced to do this plenty of times when the car next to me was already parked the same way.

…then you walk back out to find the real a-hole gone….

I prefer the filler neck to be on the drivers side myself. It's what I'm used to, but there is an advantage for those with it on the passenger side. That those fortunate bastard rarely have to wait in line to fill up the tank like the other 90% of us.

When I’m in a rental or car that isn’t mine I just look at the Fuel gauge. 99% there is an arrow pointing to which side the filler cap is on.

I think that most of the Euro models sold in both markets (US & Europe) have the filler on the right side due to them being right hand drives before having to redesign the dash and pedals to be a left hand drive, whereas most of the mainly US market vehicles are mostly on the left side due to being left hand drives originally..
But not all do this, of course... I do think it more of a convenience thing not having to walk around the vehicle though...

No proof, just my twisted thinking...

Ah yes. This makes PERFECT sense. Astute observation!

Redesigns are def expensive and making a car for both markets lets the bean counters remain happy.

Car + truck are on different sides but as soon as a I realize I feel like a dumbass and move it to an appropriate spot
What I don't do is drag the gas hose over the trunk - those people make me

In some countries the hose is on a sort of high crane type contraption which swivels and reaches the other side of the car letting the hose down vertically without touching the vehicle - very smart

Europeans drive left hand vehicles, same as US.
UK and Northern Ireland cars have steering wheels on the right side. Republic of Ireland drives on the same side of the road as US and Europe and have steering wheel on the left side.

Unless all European cars are originally designed for the small UK market, your theory does not hold water.

PS majority of the world drives on the same side of the road as US and has a steering wheel on the left side of the car, exceptions being former UK Colonies and Japan.

My rebadged Holdens (G8 and Caprice) all had them on the passenger side in America so your line of thinking would make sense

I've had an attendant flag me into a pump where it was on the wrong side (long lines and I was just simply waiting my turn) and after watching them drag the hose across the trunk/paint/whatever I was like F that noise, it's northern NJ there are forty gas stations less than 2 minutes away, I'm out of here

The filler on my parents' Suzuki Grand Vitara is on the right. It's the only vehicle I can think of offhand that has it on the side but it's convenient because the filler on their boat is on the right (driver's) side as well.

I forgot about those. They do some things right over there. But fuck roundabouts. Americans don't know how they work.

Some older American cars had the filler neck in the middle of the rear bumper, behind the license plate, which would pivot down for access, so it didn't matter which side of the pump you were on. Of course, that would be difficult to implement on today's SUVs with tailgates.

Ah yes, I remember those hidden gas filler caps behind license plates, that was a dope feature if you think about it. Can get to it from either side. It makes for cleaner body lines.

Remember the exploding Ford Pintos? That wasn't really a filler nozzle problem though.
