I have an 09 Tacoma 4x4 double cab long box auto that I installed the 3 inch OME full kit from Toytec.

The kit consists of the 885 coils with the top plate spacer, diff drop, full rear dakar leaf pack, carrier bearing drop, front struts and rear shocks, extended rear brake lines, and rear axle shims, the trim packer for the Tacoma lean, and Light Racing upper control arms.

The truck drives great and alligned perfectly with everything installed and double checked by the local 4x4 shop that has high work quality and a good reputation. I have also checked things out myself.

While changing the front tires a few months after the lift I noticed that there isn't very much down travel available in the front struts. I measured the strut length with the truck weight on the wheels and then with it free suspended and the extension is only about 3/4 of an inch.

That seems like very little available extension during the suspension cycle. Does any one know if this seems normal or if there might be something not quite right. I don't know if it is due to the 885 coils being too stiff or having the small top plate spacer installed. Again the front rides nice and the 885's seem to be the right springs for a double cab plus lots of guys seem to run this setup with the top plate spacer so maybe that is all they extend. Anyone have an opinion?

I also noticed a few other things. One the truck still sits lower on the driver side compared to the passenger side even with the trim packer installed. It is only about 1/2 an inch. Anyone else have this as well?

I also have issues with the VSC coming on during turns above 40 mph more so during turns to the right. I understand that getting it re-calibrated might help. Anyone done this?

Thanks again for the help. Everything I have done to the truck has been done with help from members on the forum and their good advice.

    Interesting ,

I have the same lift except no top spacers , my VSC engages on right hand turns only .

Get the skid control ECU re calibrated .

Strange that it would be both turns to the right where the VSC acts up more often. Did you get yours recallibrated? Did it make a difference?

With the difference in hight ive heard that the ome could have a designated drivers side and passenger side. Maybe id try switching the sides and see if that helps

Mine was kicking in , on right turns only , after the tranny TSB ecu re-flash , on stock suspension .

I had it re-calibrated and it cut the occurence way back .

I have since installed the OME kit , and the VSC engagement has returned ( not suprised ) , but on the same right hand only turns where it engaged previously .

I am going to go and get it re calibrated after my alignment .

Anyone know if this is true? And if so how can you tell? I would think the springs or struts would be marked...

No , they are not side specific .

The OEM coils are though .

What do you mean the coils are? The coils are side specific but the struts are not? Or the coils are just length and spring rate specific?

I know they are different lengths and spring rate specific (Ie 885's versus 884's) but I have never heard that they are driver or passenger side specific.

    OEM not OME

OEM = Toyota , the stock coils .

The stock coils are side specific , the OME ones are not .

Thanks I just can't type or read sometimes apparently.

Anyway I could talk you into measuring how much down travel (droop) you get on the front struts on your OME kit? I only get about 3/4 of an inch from weight on wheels to free suspended as measured along the strut.

I have an 07 4quad cab V6 6 speed short bed. I have OME 885's, toytec top spacer, rear TSB and add a leaf. OME Nitrochargers all around. I also have Light Racing UCAS, and extended brake lines all around and have added Wheelers Offroad bumpstops. I have had this suspension kit on the truck for almost 4 years now. At first, I had very little travel and it was really stiff. But, it has settled over time and now it is a very active suspension. But, I recently added All Pro sliders, and I am now going for a full bumper from Relentless fabrication and am going to go to 886 springs, no top spacer. I should still get about 3 inches of lift.

With regards to the lean, remeber the gas tank is on the drivers side. I fixed this by getting a high lift jack and installing it on the passenger side with a bed mount kit. Makes up for some of the weight differential at full tank.

With regards to measuring suspension travel and articulation, try popping the sway bar off and then checking the articulation. If you have the vehicle jacked up on one side and you are trying to raise and lower the suspension to cycle it through to check for travel, the sway bar could be restricting the movement.

While you are doing this you should also check your bumpstops to make sure you are bottoming out on the bump stops and not the strut when the spring binds. After popping the sway bar off, check how much articulation you have, and then make sure you get a bump stop that is appropriately sized and will stop the strut or spring from bottoming out on full compression.

Then hook the sway bar back up for highway driving.
