Are you saying truck beds were easier to climb into before CAFE became a thing?

This thread is reaching for material

Well, tucking bumpers in tight wasn't a concern before...some people seem to need their bumper sticking out to get into their bed. :notsure:

And to make things more difficult, the bastards at Toyota made the tailgate extra wide because people feel they 'need' to get a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in their bed. I mean, really! WTH, are these trucks or something?

OP’s original complaint said to drop the tailgate , then try to get in.

As for bumpers and heights of truck beds.
I think it all has to do with profit.
People in the USA want BIG TALL trucks.

Just look here on TW, look at all the lift kit threads.

Some people do truck things with their trucks. If ground clearance wasn't a problem, we'd all be driving low riders. Seems to me that truck beds have been this way for quite a while, except for the base model mini trucks of the 70's and 80's.

I don't think the Tacoma's bed is any taller than a Chevy/GMC, Nissan, Ford, Honda or Jeep. Chevy just added those cutouts in their bumper.

edit: To be clear, I'm 66, am short, have bad knees, a bad back and could stand to lose 10 lbs. I've never bitched about getting in any truck.

The manufacturers build what sells. Yes, it's about profit. If they thought they could sell as many '85 Toyota pickups with a 70hp inline 4 that had any transmission you want, as long as it was manual and no air or other goodies, that's what they'd be manufacturing. But it's not, because I doubt they'd sell enough to turn a profit.

In the almost 4 years I've been on this forum, this has to be the strangest thread I've been a part of.

Background: this is the only vehicle forum I frequent/consistently update.

I don't see what happens anywhere else so my thought process is strictly just TW.

For the outsiders judging Tacomaworld on this thread, uh… don’t.

Need a technical question answered? Truck looked at 1k miles in a sketchy back alley mud covered lot? The folks on here will bend over backwards to make it happen.

But if you come on here and ask pointless troll questions, you will get openly roasted (ask me how I know).

Use the search button, ask poignant questions, you will fit in fine. Or get sucked into nonsense “fun” threads. Either is ok.

    Now…
