You have far too much time on your hands. Is this a third gen thing? Where are you planning to go that it will be so steep long enough to be a problem? Asking, because I want to go...

Just run your oil on the low end of the dip stick, then it won't get that high................:anonymous:

On a serious note there is a thread somewhere, where somebody did that or something similar.

    This discussion about it, maybe?

Catch cans take 3 min to install. Do it. Skip all the extra engineering and problem solving

There's a stop sign, on an incline, in the Town of Seymour that had my oil pressure light on and truck shut off when I rolled backwards a little. (AT)

A deep inquiry concluded it to be normal under those circumstances.

I put a catch can in mine after seeing a few billowing smoke on inclines

This is what I used. Install was like 5 minutes

It’s a third gen thing. It doesn’t have to be that big of an incline to be an issue.

Got one of these on each truck

Counterpoint, keeping your oil just above the full. On the stick prevents this from happening in most normal driving situations. However off-road everything does change. Note I do have a catch can on both trucks.

At the end of the day it comes down to the fact that the oil sump is in a stupid spot and the oil pan isn't baffled to prevent this from happening. Toyota adapted the 2gr about 95% for these trucks and just failed to address a few tiny issues like this. You know tiny because oil starvation doesn't kill engines or anything....

Yes, it's a 3rd gen thing. The 3.5's oil return from the head (well, there's one on the front of the head too, but that's not the point) is right next to the PCV. It could possibly happen even @ Tigerton. Say you're climbing one of the steeper rocks and get high centered as you break over the top (like @Pixeltim did in June). If you let your truck idle while you setup to winch yourself up, especially if you're leaning somewhat passenger, the oil in the driver's head can pool and get sucked into the PCV and ultimately the intake.

    See the 3:30 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUIja_kMoRg&t=230s

Look at what you have ahead of you when you retire...

It has nothing to do with the oil pan and everything to do with the proximity of the PCV to the head drain.

And like I said, with underhood wiring, Auxbeam, real estate is limited. What I'm thinking of takes little more than stock...and doesn't need to be drained.

Yes, I do. Just finished a 28 hour print. The planetary gears all turn. First piece of a model CVT.

I think the total piece count is 49, 21 prints, 7 different colors.

Ok so my assumption was based on a symptom of the head draining problem. Whoops.

They replace a stock hose which is already there. Plenty of real estate :D

Now, just imagine if they had made a second gen into a wagon with a shorter wheelbase and a 3 link rear suspension! That would be one helluva kick-ass vehicle!
