    Yeah.
I started school when I was 4 (my mom had too many kids, and I could tie my shoes and kinda read, so they let me in), so most of my classmates were over a year older than me. One good friend was from a divorced family, got his hardship license at 15 and got his grandma's car to drive. Blue 4-door Ford Granada with the straight six and blue vinyl interior. It was awful. Complete opposite of a chick magnet. My Tuff Wheels were cooler than that. That would have been around 1980.

Watching a video short on YouTube right now. It’s showing an old McDonald’s ad from 1985. The Big Mac Valuepack. Large Coke, Big Mac and a large order of fries for $2.69.

Remember when, parents didn't drive their kids to school ? We rode bikes, walked or took the school bus...

Our school didn’t have buses. Parents carpooled. I didn’t walk at all.

I'll probably get flak for this, but my town busses K-6 on the SAME bus. Cell phones are ubiquitous which results in Kindergarteners and 1st graders ending up on someone's tiktok unknowingly.

There have been issues every damn year. So yea I drive my kids sometimes if I can, it's frankly not worth it. They love school, fucking hate riding the bus.

I tell my kids just treat it like mass transit: eyes forward, head down, shut the fuck up and ignore the jackassery.

Oh I took the bus because my town was way bigger and the school was across multiple highways. Once 7th grade hit I never bussed again just walked a few miles on back roads.

Our school was lame so we didn't have anyplace to chain up the bikes. Walking through the woods to get there was fun though.

    School Yard Jump Ramp Jams...

All of us hood rats would have "sleep overs" at one of our houses. Hang out, skate out front, skate my half pipe, watch monster movies or Rambo or whatever.
We'd wait until dark and hit up the local construction site for materials. Four or five kids rolling 4x8 sheets of ply wood and 2x4's down the street on their skateboards.
The next day we'd be out front building new jump ramps or other obstacles. Everyone had "borrowed" parking blocks in their mow strips outside their houses.

I can still hear my Dad yelling about using his tools...

Every Sunday after church. Carl's Jr. with some of the other church families. My parents and my little bro and I would eat for under $16. I remember ordering a "Double Western" and it tipped the bill to $18. More yelling from my Dad. lol

We used to have wheelie contests on my street as a kid. It started when we were about 10ish on our Huffy's, Schwinn's and such and continued through high school on our 10 speeds. I could never win on my 20" Huffy but I could ride a wheelie forever on my cheapo 10 speed!

Remember Tiddies? I had a pair, hated them. Don't like anything between my toes.

On my street we had epic baseball games and "three flies up" games in the late 50's. Cars would stop until we finished the play then we would hustle to the edge of the street so the car could pass. Nobody ever got mad at us. Nowadays drivers would never tolerate that.

We also had huge kick the can hide and seek games in the street at night and everybody's front yard on the street was fair game for hiding, once again no neighbor ever got upset with us.

I could walk down the street with my BB gun or pellet gun heading to the many fields near the neighborhood and nobody cared.

    I did love my childhood.

In 73' our jr hi was 300yds from 3 gas stations and a Burger Chef's.
Walking to BC for lunch was an option, but doing it in 30 minutes, was the challenge.
It was usually, "hold my books," sprint to BC, eat burger, fries, coke on fast walk back, hit the doors as the bell rang.
The guys on bikes had it made.

    What's that behind you a 69?
I had a 68. 350 bored 0.03 with 4.11 rear. I had the headlight covers, but the vacuum lines were busted so I had to open and close them by hand.
I had a pool table in my basement so my bros and I would meet at my house, shoot a couple games then head out to the arcade / pool hall. Maybe even pick up a pack of Djarums to split and make us feel cool.
