Finally got around to sending out an oil sample this afternoon, first one I've done in anything where the sample bottle amount visibly affected the level gauge.

Question...does she HAVE to be able to drive it?

obviously it would be helpful for her to be capable, but I would imagine her knowing how to ride a motorcycle means she could get it moving in an emergency if really needed.

I'll share a story. When I was 16, I was looking to lease a car. Ended up with a Mazda3, that I got in Auto because my girlfriend at the time didn't like manuals.

Lo and behold, we broke up not even 3 months later and I was left to finish out the remaining 2.75 years on my lease in an auto that wasn't particularly enjoyable to drive.

The next time I would own another auto vehicle would be my Tacoma. and despite auto being much more practical for my track towing, camping, and offroading, I still find myself wishing it was a manual about 60% of the time.

just a couple of things tbh
Sorta? It's a 16 Dodge dart that is a massive pos and we can't get rid of it because of other reasons ATM... The reason to have an auto is so she can drive it when I'm out of town with the truck or any other reason as a all around family car. We do plan to get her a newer car once we can get rid of this stupid dart but having the ability to have any of us drive it would be good.
No she truly doesn't but I'd like her to be able to drive it if she needs to go to work the store and what not. She can drive the f150 she just doesn't like to because of how large it is. She is comfortable parking and backing it a lot of the time.

She can ride a motorcycle yes but has never driven a manual car sooo that would go about as well as you are thinking haha.

That for sure sucks man and that would be awful but ATM we are looking at rings sooo ya we are in it for the long haul.
What you mean that is him!

At that point just rip off the windshield and wear one of my motorcycle helmets.

Also, adding to the manual vs auto conversation. Tacoma when I had it was manual, wife (GF and fiance at the time) couldn't see over the dash in it. Sold that and bought the 4runner when we were engaged and knew we'd be going for a family soon, sold at the height of the pandemic used car price jump so made out pretty well, but the 4runner was an auto and it never really felt good to me. Almost all of my other vehicles I've missed when I sold it, I don't miss the 4runner. And then yeah, traded the 4runner in for the manual WRX.

There was one wedding where it was handy to have her be able to drive the 4runner, because I got schwasty pants and she drove me and some buddies home, but other than that she's never needed to drive it, she's always had her car that we'll take if theres a possibility of her needing to drive.

    92 corolla -auto
    98 CRV - 5 speed
    2008 Tacoma - 6 speed
    2007 4runner - auto
    2023 wrx - 6 speed

Haha yup! I want a fun sports car but if we can't take everyone in it and she can't drive it then doesn't see the point in it lol. Thanks lol I still need to do the whole typical on da knee ask thing but we have both agreed we want to go further lol.

We would technically have 3 but the dart is kinda not working properly... We don't even drive the stupid thing and it still breaks!!

did you mean the tacoma as a manual never really felt good?

TBH that doesn't surprise me, and despite what my heart desires, I would probably hate my truck if it was a manual now that it's a heavy pig and takes way too long to get up to speed unless i punch it, which I would be doing every time if it was a manual. Probably would have been more enjoyable stock lol

Sounds good to me if one of them isn't that damn dart!

A few parts lmao! I crushed the old shell and the only thing I have left is the black shell and exhaust the rest is gone.

I'm trying to still fight for a Miata like the nc I found but I gotta convince her it's a practical car to get and IDK if I'll win that one lmao.

Ah shit, edited! I meant 4runner was an auto and I hated it. I loved the 6 speed tacoma, the thing was a hoot. I was HP Tuned and it was running mint. It was a sport edition so it had the *actual* clutchpack LSD in the back that was a blaaaast to lock up around corners and get sliding a little sideways. Fucking loved that truck. I still know it was a good decision to sell it but man I miss it. No way in hell was I going to deal with a car seat in an access cab 2nd gen.

Lol I think Miatas might be even less practical than motorcycles, but you can tell her I agree if it helps your case lol

ahh gotcha. i actually forgot the manuals were 6 speed, so i may have to recant my previous statement lol that would be much more pleasant than the auto 5 speed.

Yeesh yeah family growing into an access cab would have been a nightmare and made you guys tetris champions

I think the inline 4's got a 5 speed through the end of the 2nd generation? I could be wrong on that though.

but yeah, 1st gear was super short, sixth gear cruised nicely. It wasn't bad. I put the TRD short shift kit on it and it shifted really nicely. Clutch engagement was pretty high but once you were used to it it wasn't a big deal.

One of my first auto trucks was the 2022. And now the 13. ALL the other 12 or so Toyotas I have owned were manual. I wish the 13 was manual. I do manually shift it sometimes just to have something to do. Lol

I was having trouble getting my riding boot under the stock shifter. This one is way better.
