Can a rack and pinion cause pulling when braking?

Anyone replace a rack and pinion?

Been chasing a pull to the left when. I break for a few months. In Oct did the front end, upper/lower ball joints, control arms, end links rack bushings. Tie rods seemed ok. Can move by hand but not sloppy. Replaced calipers, passenger was frozen. When I brake steering wheel moves left and then right. Ordered new tie rods and crawled under to do them today.

About a tablespoon of power steering fluid came out of the passenger side. I'm assuming the seals are going. Could that cause my symptoms? 353K original rack. Tie rods were done 50k ago

Highly unlikely but a worn LCA bushing will

It's been doing this even after the front end was done. Upper and lower ball joints. Upper and lower control arms. Sway bar bushings and end links. Rack and pinion bushings and now in and outer tie rods.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
You threw a lot of parts at a bad caliper...possibly a rotor or contaminated pads. At least everything is fresh...

350k on all of those parts needed to be done and planned before this symptom started. Pads and rotors were due anyway. Problem is still doing it.

make sure the hard line on side of caliper(s) isn't pinched or crimped.....those can get messed up if LBJ fails and wheel pops off

losing a wheel from an old wore out LBJ is pretty common here

and you could of gotten a sticky caliper

As mentioned, if it's only when when braking I'd be surprised. Mine had a pull but it was constant, all the time, not enough to be unsafe but if you let go of the wheel you'd be in the ditch in 100 yards. Couldn't be aligned out. I'd suspect something wonky with the brakes on the driver's side.

I had a similar issue, the culprit was a rear brake cylinder was stuck open & not braking. I was about ready to set it on fire I had put almost $3k into front end trying to figure it out.

Haven't looked into the rears other than to adjust parking brake. Did you feel it in the steering wheel? It does it when I'm doing 40 miles an hour greater. I'll hit the brakes and it wants to drift left so I have to turn the steering wheel slightly right but if I let go at that point it goes straight. I've also noticed an odd squeal of the tires occasionally when braking.

Have you verified there are no abnormalities with the wheel bearing?
A very roasted wheel bearing made my taco braking quite wonky at times
It no joke either! I could not ever believe it

Didn't that make noise? Or grinding? I hope it's not that I don't have a press.

Rock the wheel six and twelve back up and down

Any knocking noise? Mine had a slight knock at the beginning of failure

I had no apoarent grinding noise at the time...this was a replacement bearing of a replacement bearing that some indy shop fukked up bad on me

The wheel rock at six to twelve was inches and rocked the whole cover axle.. yet was still drivable somehow

It's the bushings in the lower control arm. Rigged up a camera and can see the arm move.

Nice job on camera -- good sleuthing!

Not relevant now, but mine had a steady pull to left mostly felt at highway speeds. Braking didn't affect it much -- just a steady left pull. Ended up taking it to shop and they replaced all the steering linkages between steering shaft and the rack. Fixed the problem but cost close to $2k.
