    Hey there,

Anyone install one of these in place of the passenger side bed cubby?

My 2021 short bed doesn't have the driver's side cubby. The passenger side one is smaller than what I recall the driver's side cubby was on my 2016 - and the outlet is right next to it.

So wondering if I can use the EE mount on the passenger side without having to relocate the outlet.

Finally, I'm aiming for the bed as a mount location for convenience as I'd have hose, fittings and gauge in the bed as well. And I thought the bed location would keep the compressor a bit cleaner than in the engine bay.

But I can get a engine bay mount for half the price by a Canadian fabricator - O2 Fabrication. With additional wiring for a bed mount I imagine the engine bay option might be $100 cheaper to go with the engine bay.

I just don't like having to pop up the hood and get hoses from the bed to use the compressor.

    Thoughts?

Not to get into a separate debate, but anyone have any strong views against

    So anyone

Second Gen guy here, but I did install the Expedition Essentials compressor mount. The mount will not fit on the passenger side without relocating the outlet.

I will say that I love where my compressor is currently, but it took a lot of planning and fact checking to ensure the wiring was adequate and safe to run a compressor on. What compressor are you looking to use?

ARB Single - can get a good price on a unit locally. Open to other options but this one is new and about half price, so 250 CAD.

Is relocating the outlet a major pain? I'm totally opposed to doing it - my engineer friend will do the install and he'd figure it out but question is what kind of time does it require?

Finally, does the ARB Single have a switch on the unit or is that something I have to wire in separately?

I relocated my 120V outlet to inside the vehicle where I will actually use it - yes, a bit of work.

No, the ARB Single or Double do not have a switch on them - you will have you supply one somewhere.

Just curious, why didn’t you go with the Guild Outfitters Interior Outlet Upgrade? This was a super easy mod to complete.

I wish to do my own work/fabrications. It’s much more rewarding than buying something. It also enables me to become more intimate with my vehicle and to understand the design that went into the vehicle, which makes it easier to understand the next thing I didn’t know I wanted.

Did a little digging and found that I slightly misspoke. You can add the EE mount to the passenger side and have room for a compressor (up to the twin size) BUT you need the Expedition Essentials Toyota Tacoma BCM Power Outlet Adapter to make it work. This adapter mounts the outlet flush with the bedside and allows for more room with the compressor mount.

Here is a thread from a 2nd Gen member who did a similar set up, only difference being a twin ARB. He did a somewhat detailed write up that you can follow:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...en-tacoma-today.6499/page-11533#post-27236074

If you are looking to be very adventurous, you can always add back the driver side cubby like this member did:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...side-bed-storage-cubby-on-2019-models.818770/

Then you can add the compressor mount there.

There have already been some good discussion on pros and cons for both mounting positions. I would definitely poke through these threads:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...locations-for-arb-dual-air-compressor.777925/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oba-on-board-air-mega-thread-bs.299523/page-32

One idea I would leave you with, should you go with mounting this in the engine compartment, is that you can always add some hose/piping and a hidden fitting. This way you are not popping the hood every time you use the compressor. I’ve even seen some guys add air hook ups to the wheel wells and carry minimal amounts of hose.

    I'm the same way, Toycoma.

I'm going to mount my ARB twin under the passenger seat with the riser, once I save up enough for it all. The riser will be handy for shorties riding shotgun, plus I've heard and seen compressors having issues with being mounted under the hood. This will keep it safe, hidden, central, and in a spot that wouldn't otherwise be used. Like HXP said, I'm not a fan of opening my hood for tools or any unnecessary reason, plus on the passenger side I'm not in traffic if I need to use it at the side of the road.

Great price, bigtrout! Let me know if you see a twin on sale

The single I'm looking at is from a fellow who decided to go with a double. I haven't found an ARB Single for less than $490 in Canada plus tax and shipping.

I was otherwise going to pull the trigger on a Visit 400 or 300 compressor.

In case I don't get my hands on the ARB - sounds like someone ahead of me in the queue for the moment - anyone know the Expedition Essentials bedmount would accommodate a Viair unit like a 300 or 400?

I’m assuming the 300P or 400P compressors, but yes they will fit. Below is the dimensions for the 400P off of the ViAir site:

    upload_2025-8-19_12-47-9.png

The dimensions to the mount are:

    17” x 11” x 7”

Please keep in mind that these may be external measurements.

My 2 cents after going through this process. You seem to be budget minded, as I am, so I would recommend looking for a full set up. Such as the compressor with wire harness and any hoses/air connections that you want. I thought I would beat ARB pricing for a new twin, mount, and wire harness by purchasing most of the components off Facebook or Craigslist list, but the wire harness is what got me. Smittybilt doesn’t provide a wire harness for their compressors so I had to fabricate one myself.

At the end of the day my suggestion is that with whatever you find, be sure to price out the full system you need/want.

That's exactly what I've found out and why I'm leaning towards the ARB with kit. It should all be included without having to piece it together for even more money.

You could also check out www.off-road.ca for some Rough Country accessories.
