Remove Antenna?

My owners manual says to remove the antenna prior to going through the car wash. Is this really necessary or is it really not an issue?

 

never been and issue for mine, my dads, or any of my friends trucks

 

i do if there are brushes in the car wash, they will bend it and rip it off....did that in an old car. I usually wash it myself or take it somewhere that hand washes it.

 

I took mine off and left it off...it gets beat to shit when I'm going through the desert. I listen to my ipod all the time anyhow

 

Get a stubby antenna....

I've seen some messed up fenders from automatic car washes and antennas. Unless you change to a stubby antenna I would take it off during car washes.

 

Never had an issue with any vehicle going through a car wash. I like the idea of taking it off, would prevent damage.

 

What about you guys with cb antennas? What do you do then?

 

Takem them out the QD mount or fold the folding mount.

 

I tried without removing and it about ripped my antenna off want do that again

 

I'm going to totally disagree on the stubbie antenna idea. I had one and went through a car wash. About $60 in parts later and it was repaired. Had to replace the entire antenna pole assembly. This was unfortunately not a touchless car wash and I usually hand wash but was out of town after a snowstorm and needed to get the salt off.

Anyway, either get something flexible or stay away from "touch" car washes.

 

my antenna was ripped off during a car wash. luckily only one scratch on the truck.

Well sounds like the safe play is to remove it before going thru the car wash.
I'd get a stubby but I do listen to FM around town and the reception around here is poor to begin with. Thanks for the input/feedback.

 

I'm about to Loctite mine. It won't stay screwed tight.

go to the self washing bays and spray it down, foam brush, rinse and BAM! no antenna damage risk


ever since i got my bumper and winch i stopped going through auto washes anyway...and now i usually have my softtop on and definitely don't want auto wash for that

 

Carwash with brushes ripped the antenna, base and all from the fender of my brothers Dodge. They blamed it on the antenna topper.

 

Definitely unscrew it when you go through a car wash. then just screw it back on when your leaving. Trust me, the car wash brushes and pads will molest your antenna if you do not remove it.
