How many quarts of oil for 2nd gen 4.0 oil change

edit: Even though all three may or may not sometimes or never overlap. Not that I am, or am not, saying that they do.

 

I usually buy one of dem right thurr big 5-6 quart jugs of earl and end up with about a trickle in that derrr bottom of the jug.

 

How long did it take you intentionally type something that messed up??

While your in there, change the spark plugs. Just leave the gap extra long and the piston will set it for you.

 

4.0 V6 I use 6 quarts with the long filter. If you use the stubby filter 5 1/2 Qts.

I’ve always put 5 quarts never had any issues.

 

6 quarts. The oil is maybe 1/16 over the full dot. The filter is the bigger one yy3 or zz3 something like that. Never had issue.

 

Not sure what’s worse, a new oil thread or reviving one from 2011.

5.4 qts,most guys thrown in 6 qts and call it good to go.

 

Old thread, but what the heck. It's supposed to hold 5.5 quarts, but you will never get all of the old oil out. I buy oil in 5 qt jugs and dump in one jug. By the time it's ready for the next oil change it's about 1/2 qt low.

 

weird how my 09 tacoma wit 4.0 v6 calls for 5.5 but at each oil chsnge i do it only needs exactly 1gal container (4qt) and the dipstick reads perfect.

 

nevermind , those were actually 5qt jugs of mobil one i used to buy from walmart. i was going to switch to amsoil this next oil change and was confused because their big jug (that just came in the mail) was only 1gal / 4qt and for a min i assumed the ones from walmart must be 1gal too , duh now i need another qt because, ya, the 2nd gen tacoma does need 5qt at each oil change. Not 5.5 like the specs say
