We shall now call it Silverado canyon :D. Love the Whites. So incredible to be among the Great Basin Bristlecone Pines.

One of my first Garmin enabled stereos routed you up that way by default. When Jane said “left turn” way before the highway, I wondered how many people headed down that dirt road before they realized it wasn’t getting better :D

Thinking of heading up to the June lake loop area soon. Is this a good time of the year? Camping allowed out of campgrounds?
Maybe take a dual sport bike?

Wonder if that was happening in this case? A friend and I were headed up Silver(ado) and met a Lexus at the bottom of the switchbacks, driving down-canyon. Apparently they had no idea their tire had failed coming down the switchbacks and they just kept driving -- they told us they heard a "funny sound."

I was coming down Silver(ado) Canyon in my Ford Ranger, in the late 80’s and came across a guy on a mountain bike whose rear tire looked like this. He was riding with his brother who had stopped to help but it was way beyond just patching a tube. So we threw the bike with the shredded tire in the bed and followed the other brother down the hill. I didn’t dare keep up. Remember, this was before any suspension, disk brakes, etc. but this guy was shredding. His brother was yelling “Go go go, don’t let him get away” while his bike was threatening to bounce out of the bed. Only approaching Laws when the road levels out did I catch up. My first trip up there was 1984 in my Datsun pickup; last time was 2017 in my Taco when I went up Silver and down Wyman.

I remember driving up to Mauna Kea a couple years ago in a rental Jeep. After the required waiting period to acclimate at the visitor center, there's a guy who makes sure that your vehicle has low range, you've put it in low range, and have it in low gear. He also checks your brake temperature and makes sure that you know how to take it out of low range when you get back to the VC. It had me wondering how many people had fucked up their vehicles and/or themselves in order to have that kind of nannying implemented.

Here’s my 80 Series back in 2007 at the top of Silver Canyon. There was a sign back then too. Just a little less professional looking.

    Thank you.
    I've watched it twice.
He has a video of 395 in Nevada and recently posted a 3rd video of 395 all the way to Oregon border.

Looks like the Nevada side of I80 slid. #2 & #3 lanes are kinda blocked with mud.

Crazy weather. Cannot imagine how Burning Man is going...the orgy tent is irreparable after the last storm :)

that prompted me to ask is anything wrong with the 395 or 108 right now? seems like 395 just has the 1 lane 1-way traffic in some areas still. Going to Leavitt lake this weekend.
