74Weld has had one in the works for a while not sure if they actually are moving forward with them. The estimated timeline keeps changing.

I don't know if it was 2nd gen only or for both 2nd and 3rd gen. 74Weld has been talking/working on it for close to two+ years at least. I believe their focus has turned to their portals and the ranger and bronco platforms. There was an offroad show earlier in the year where one was supposed to be on display but have not heard or seen anything since other than an expected price something in the $3.5k range. In the last YouTube video I watched from 74Weld Quinn was talking about suspension system offerings. I asked about if the Tacoma stuff was all stock width and his reply was yes. Which to me means everything is focused around the portals. I did not ask about the P/S Rack this time. Last time I did he said it was supposed to be out before the end of last year.

    74weld is gay.

20g's for a fucked product. no housing breathers, misalignment, seized gears, tiny studs. some major fuckery going on over there.

Anyone had the pleasure of cutting off a Marlin Crawler frame brace kit to make room for JD lower pivot kit?

This is from multiple people that I've talked to that have them, big shops included.

They've got a great idea, but man did they execute poorly for 20k.

They at least did the stand up thing and acknowledged the issue with a solution. Not the worst thing I've seen for a new product being developed. Yes, they're pricey but this isn't back yard mechanic designed product.

I haven't seen a set myself yet, but I cringe every time I see them on a stock rear housing... the front full billet spindle seems fine.

thats the first I head of no breather tho

that makes a lot of sense, imo any of the applications on leaf springs are in for some seriously accelerated wear on some components on the rear end.

Lmfao the studs weren’t the failure in this case. The studs were a result of the actual failure. It’s not my failure to talk about, but a video is going to be released on it.

Bigger Studs probably would’ve still sheared, and if they didn’t, the failure would be pushed somewhere else. Either way, colossal fuck up here.

It would be the stand up thing to do, if that was the WHOLE story, but it’s not, and it certainly was received widely as the “stand up” thing to do.

I've seen 74Weld advertise their portals as trophy truck technology. At face value, it's an attractive claim with how well the AWD race trucks run. 74Weld seems to have the in-house machining technology, but I wonder what the actual differences are between their portals and actual race portals. Obviously stock axle housing not withstanding.

Race proven =\= rugged. I’ve found that some race proven parts are designed to be raced, removed, and rebuilt, and straight up don’t hold up to the rigors of daily driving. Two totally different tasks, each with their own challenges

Yeah in that respect, parts need to be engineered to be rebuilt often as well. Not an easy task. I'd love to see a portal'd home-brew race tacoma though. Hold my beer while I go find some sponsors. lmao.

The rack will do nothing. The prototype I saw was literally a billet housing with a factory servo and bar. If that’s the route they are going with it, they are 10 miles out of the park for a win.

They have had success with other racks where the housings are the weak link. I have yet to see a Tacoma rack housing broken.

how do I dislike this post? That makes me sad. What about the issue with the JD Fab slide rack? it won't fit the 3rd gen because something is in the way?

Look into the Vorra races for grass roots 'affordable' racing. Local to us in Northern California/Nevada. We have a 400-miler next weekend in Yerington. I'll be there in my class 9 car racing with my kids.

Tundra rack is the simplest most proven upgrade so far unless you’re down to build your own.
