Bds vs pro comp 6” lifts

    I’ve heard nothing but great things about BDS and I opted to purchase a lift of theirs, but now am hearing from someone that installs these lifts often that the BDS lift kit will yield the same cv angles as my Rough Country lift (how this is possible I have no idea). He says the lift cage (drop bracket) is the same as the RC… he says to go with the pro comp stating it has a larger lift cage and will yield better cv angles :confused:

    anyone have any input here? I just want a 6” lift with healthy cv angles for cryin out loud lol

    I think you have more important issues to address than the lift.

    Rough Country effectively has a diff drop built into their crossmember kit that drops the diff housing about half-inch further down than it does the lower control arms (however there are no brackets (spacers) that hang down like a standard diff drop kit would).
    This actually makes the CV angle better than it otherwise would be, so I'm not sure what your guy is worried about (I don't even know what a "diff cage" is.. The diff housing is dropped down via the crossmembers, and is held in place with brackets on bushings attached to the crossmembers).
    I doubt anything would be any different with the BDS kit other than the BDS has another ¾ inch more crossmember drop (4" vs 3.25").

    Lol I didn’t know what a diff cage was either but it meant the drop bracket I guess. And I see so the BDS is slightly lower but ya probly not going to change things drastically. I currently have the RC 6” lift but I’m unable to mount the new Fox 2.5s I bought. The UCA’s won’t bolt up to the knuckle due to the foxes length even under the compression of the trucks weight. Perhaps I’ll have to make an adjustment in preload if mounting the new coilovers is still a pain in the butt with the new BDS stuff.

    The RC kit would need a little less preload on the Foxes due to the slightly lesser crossmember drop, yes.

    That’s sick. Appreciate you sharing applicable information rather than whatever that guy ^ was talking about.

    also— I’m now curious how the dimensions of the pro comp drop bracket and knuckle height would compare to the BDS, but I suppose maybe it would be pretty similar. I’ll make some phone calls tomorrow to see what kind of answers I can get. Having a regular cab has always been a bit of a challenge when it came to my suspension and compressed strut length. But with the coilovers thank god I can adjust them lol

    I think Pro Comp drops 4.5", but I could be wrong (this just by looking at pictures of it and comparing it to the others). Yeah lemme know if you find out, I'd be curious.

    Out of curiosity do you have anything to say regarding advantages/benefits over the pro comp lift that BDS would have that would reflect the higher cost? I think I saw pro comps 6” priced at 1299 whereas BDS’s was like 1700 (not including the shocks/coilovers)

    Hello sir I just wanted to chime in. I installed the lift this weekend (not sure if that was clarified in this thread yet that I’d already purchased a BDS lift upon creating this thread) but l measured 4.5” from the center bolt head of the front facing upper cross member bolt and the middle of the alignment cam spot. I need to get a picture of the measurement though. Here’s a pic from yesterday when I finished one side of the lift. My truck doesn’t compress the shocks at all but maybe .5” sooo idk.. might have to go lighter spring.

    so perhaps both BDS and Pro Comp have a 4.5” crossmember drop. I’ll try to get a picture of the tape lined up where I’m measuring.

    Thanks for sharing, I did see this picture in another thread. I could have done comparisons on the crossmembers as well but Im racing to get the truck done for a truck show. The crossmembers are more burly on the bds as well. But ya the drop on the RC is about 3.25”, whereas the drop on the BDS is 4.5”. I will get pics to compare soon.

    I still wheel it in the snow and hit trails in the winter. A lot of show trucks owners dont wheel them though. Coilovers are pretty too ya know lol

    Is there a reason you have so much preload on that coil over? If that’s a full length coil over you shouldn’t need that much preload to get the remaining 1.5” of lift if you’re only wanting 6 total

    That’s how they came from the factory I never touched them. Unless Accutune did but they said they didn’t
