They make me want to burn the whole house down

Haven't updated in here, but after getting the general pest control spray by the property management I did a full perimeter of diatomaceous earth. PM won't pay for regular spraying, so I'll be picking up some cykick or similar and starting to spray probably every quarter. The DE seemed to weaken a couple that made it inside, few others seemed unaffected. Total I think 6 or 7 have been seen and killed inside the house so far. Just 1 in the past 30 days.

4-5 nights a week I go out with a blacklight, searching the front yard and backyard for them. I was also originally hitting the alley, going 2-3 houses down in either direction. Hit 100 kills last week doing that, after about 2 months. Since the kills were slowing to between 0-3 a night, after #100 I expanded the hunting radius to include the entire alley from end to end (probably like 1/4 mile). Doing that I'm already up to 141 kills as of last night, 41 more in just about a week.

Hunting them definitely feels effective in building a bit of a boundary between me and them. First night I went in the yard there were like 6 or 7 visible, averaged 3-5 kills a night in the yards for the first couple weeks as well. Now I've only seen one in the front or back yard over the past week.

Impressive stats! I hit the yard with a black light about 5 times a week as well. DE helps a ton!

I'm a bit confused about that as well.

I've only ran into one of my immediate neighbors, he saw me with the blacklight in the front yard and came to talk about it. Apparently, he's lived there for like 2 years since inheriting the house from his grandma after she had to move. Has no memories as a kid of it being an issue, and neither his mom or grandma could remember any issues. Said he only started finding them in the past year, but has only seen 1-2 inside since. Said he got the house sprayed and hasn't seen one since.

Haven't ran into the other next door neighbor yet. Only seen 1 person out with a black light, a mom with a couple kids from a street over, but from our conversation I'm pretty sure they were doing it to look at them for fun not out of a desire to rid the neighborhood of the bastards.

I'm thinking about asking both neighbors if I can hunt their yards as well, but thats a weird ass question to ask. "Hey do you mind if I randomly wander your backyard shining a light all over at odd times of night to murder as many scorpions as I can." Not sure anyone would say yes to that realistically. Would love to keep pushing them away and build a bigger scorpion free area though

What is your method of “extermination”? As long as you don’t come off as a loon performing the act, I’d think anyone would be happy to be getting free pest control services!

I bring a couple tools on the job. For those in the open, they just get smacked with some steel tube stock I had laying around. If they're in the open, but have a quick potential route of escape, they get sprayed with a scorpion kill spray, then smacked if still possible. Lastly, the ones deep in shrubbery or in holes in the block walls, they just get sprayed. The spray seems to be like 80% effective if hit with 1 spurt, hence the double tap when possible. 100% if I sat there drowning them in it, but its like $8 a can and that'd add up quick.

Usually about 1/ year, once it's built up in the soil around the house and in the rocks it doesnt really need to be done more than every other year. I started by digging a 4" deep trench around the house and filling it with the DE and then covering it up. After that I just did a sprinkle around the exterior for a couple years. It's been 3 yrs and it's time to do another dusting. Helps with the termites when it gets into the soil. Everything that is a surface crawler needs to walk through it so a dusting takes care of that. Essentially, anything with an exoskeloton will get that shit in their little moving parts and it's like death by a thousand razor blades. For anything else... just get a spray that contains permetherin. That shit kills everything. I hit my perimeter with a spray about once a year and the inside of the house every 2 years. Anything I find in the house is dead or dying. I used to find a dozen scorpions a night in the yard and a couple inside. I'm lucky/ unlucky to find 2 or 3 every couple nights now in the yard and 1 inside every couple months now.

Pigs, Bobcats, lions, gila monsters, deer, coons, coatis, badgers, owls, widows, scorps, rattlers, kings, bulls, etc etc etc.... always an interesting night here if you're willing to stay up and stay quiet. Sometimes you don't even have to stay quiet. I've been blasting oldies and floating in the pool at 2a.m. and had javelina try to get through the fence 5ft away to join me. I've been laying under a truck in the carport and had a bobcat walk within a foot of my feet and sit down 10 ft away and watch me work. Or a gila monster creep up on me while I'm sitting on the back porch and literally crawl under my chair and take a nap. Always good times until the old lady comes out at 3 a.m. yelling at you to put the gun away, put some shoes on and stop killing shit. :ballchain:
