Just got majorly screwed by my town.

We’ve owned this place for a couple of decades. The town had already built up the road surface above my driveway when we bought the place and over the years, they added three additional layers.

I’ve complained to anyone I could over the years, not in an aggressive way, of the safety issue and danger it presents.

This summer they finally sent a grinder up the road and I thought they were going to remove at least 14” of blacktop. That’s at least how much the roadside drains were below the surface.

Nope, these geniuses ADDED above the existing grade and left the transition to my driveway unfinished. They raised the drains to match. In addition, drainage from up the street leaves sediment in my driveway. During the winter, the plows just dump their loads in my driveway as they drive past, the neighbor gets a fraction of what I get to shovel.

We’re at a loss. Anyone seeing this, please make a suggestion. My latest thinking is to sue (but on what grounds?) for 6 digits, quickly settle for mid 5s and sell the place for $1. Sue both the town and contractor that did this.

 

I never have a FB account and don’t know how it might be with one however, I can see it could help people breaking up the relationship without any confrontation
