Did a bunch of fun driving last week. My wife tried to climb in the wrong vehicle at least once during our trip.

These peaks are all in Colorado. We started in Price Utah and ended in Ouray Co (and then a handful of us went into Telluride for a Via Ferrata

Been down for a couple of weeks messed up my back pulling out the rear axles. The bearings were definitely bad and had a ton of play. The drivers side let go first. It was a huge mess.

I think trying to do the press work myself is what probably did me in. Anyways I was able to get someone to come over and we got the drives side done and the driveshaft put back in . And then 2wks later we did the passenger side. That bearing was going out too there was aa ton of play it just hadn't killed the seal yet. So we were able to get it knock it out pretty quick.
It's nice to have a drivable vehicle again. The truck has been looking a little ratty lately so I did some sprucing up. I hit the fenders with some wipes. They are blackish now instead of light gray. And I replaced the windows trim pieces. They are now black instead of chrome.

I just need to figure out what to do with the grill and hood. The plasti dip is peeling off of the chrome and I tried gooebegone and a power washer on the hood with less than favorable results

Did you mark the retainer to check seal depth through the abs holes? That is really the most crucial part and what keeps it from leaking again really soon or not.

Also try aircraft paint remover, that shit works on everything lol. *Might be extreme though*

Heard there is a specific dip dissolver that might work too.

I did check if was pretty close to the middle. The last set went 5 years. I think the big offset of my rims, weight of the tires and my poor driving probably dosent help matters.

My buddy was complaining he couldn't see me through all the dust, so I installed chase lights.

A pair of 55W halogen Harbor Freight fogs from eBay, amber Lamin-X, wired them up to my Bussmann.

Ah for a truck that gets abused that's not terrible. Also make sure your breather isn't clogged too if they were on the newer side. That happened to me on a snow run and the pressure blew the oil past the seal. I was able to repack the bearing with grease instead of replacing it.

Put truck in storage (save some $$$ on insurance for a while.) Depending on motivation I want to: 1) replace squealing fan motor. 2) general maintenance...anti-freeze drain fill, crankcase vent thing (what is that called? etc) 3) If I get really motivated thinking about the Tundra brake mod. Have purchased 3rd gen 16" wheels and new tires but still need 16" spare and looking for that.

Currently truck is mostly stock except for hitch front and back, LC Header, 5100, Alcan leafs, Wolfbox mirror, newer stereo. 178K on 2.7 5 spd. Love the truck but bought another car for kid to learn to drive and just can't justify insuring 4 cars. Won't give it up though.

I am tempted to do more

I have a relocated breather. I did give the top a twist. I probably should pull it off and dubble check it. I think that's what happened to me the first time.

So I reread your earlier post. I didn't look through the abs holes. I installed the axle and then pulled it back out to check the witness marks on marked retainer. Is it better to look through the cover?

Nah just easier than pulling the whole damn thing out ha. And yeah mine was relocated too, but moisture/dust can possibly still get into it and block it up eventually. I blew air through mine to make sure it was cleared. Worth a check either way since you now have new shoes that I am sure you don't want to replace again lol
