FWIW, My oil and filter change schedule is: 6-months or 5,000 miles.

I'm only putting about 10,000k miles per year on my truck these days. imo,That's too long of a time for contaminants to be hanging around in the oil, especially during the winter. About 50% of those miles are fairly short trips. This can contribute to fuel, water and other contaminants building up in an engine and the oil that likely doesn't reach the required temperatures to warm up enough to completely drive them out. The oil-changes are usually timed to take place in October and April regardless of miles. (usually works out to around 5,000)... Nice fresh oil for the duration of the tough cold winter and hot summer temps and conditions is what is the most important for me.

    YMMV :proposetoast:

I change mine once a year because I don't put many miles on it.

Every 5,000 miles on my 2010 regardless of time. This has come out to only once every 2 years for the last couple oil changes. Always full synthetic 5-30 with an OEM filter. The truck has 171k miles on it and I bought it in 2019 with 148k. I normally go every 10k on the Prius as Toyota recommends.

IMO changing the oil every 1,000 miles is totally unnecessary unless you're just flogging your truck on a regular basis. Especially with a good full synthetic.

I do 5k/year these days, plus I have 2 other vehicles.

Mobil1 synthetic 5w30 and an OEM filter is good for me. I should do a Blackstone test just to be sure

Mobil 1 synthetic is more than good enough for 5k miles.

5k or 6 months, OEM filter. My mileage is short trips, so 6 months is usually 3k. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30. My wife's Honda CR-V turbo gets a change every 3k, turbo runs so frigging hot....10k recommended my arse!

Every 4000 to 5000 miles using dino oil. Been doing this for 40+ years on dozens of vehicles. Never any engine problem due to oil, not a single fucking problem.

It'd be interesting to shoot a IR gun at one of the oil lines coming off the turbo and get some real world temp info, I'll bet it's high. Back in the 80s when turbos started showing up on allot more motors the dealers would tell you to idle the motor a min or two if you were getting ready to turn it off immediately after running at highway speeds, like pulling into a rest stop. Back then a lot of turbos were replaced at 80~100K mi.

Totally different conditions. One is a very thin amount of oil displayed on a shiny, reflective surface. The other is a much thicker amount of oil not viewed with a reflective surface behind it.

After you drain your oil, pull your dipstick out and dip it in the oil you just drained. The oil will appear lighter once viewed on the dipstick.

I do 5000 mile(or 1 year) oil change intervals on my vehicles, its rare that either gets driven less then 5000 miles in a year but that way I make sure I give each one a inspection once a year.
I suppose if I had a race car that was run hard I would change the oil more often or if I had a show car I almost never drove I would wait 2-3 years if its less then 2000 miles.

This is a little off topic but do any of you all remember ARCO Graphite motor oil? It was motor oil with graphite in it. Supposed to be (at the time) the most slippery lubricant on the planet. It was the rage. I used it for a year. It was jet black and looked like old used black crank case oil. After a year I just couldn’t stand putting this black oil in my engine. Has to flush my engine 3 times to get all the black out. Later they found there were problems with that oil. Like with a lot of things got sucked in by the marketing.

Not off my skull really but how far back we going?

Reminds me of when I was a teenager, the Slick 50 additive was sounding like the next big thing.
