Bed organisation (with a shell)

Now that I have my shell, this is what I did for a roadtrip setup (could be used for camping also). I still don't know if I will let the setup in the bed or I'll just put back my bed separator until I actually need the setup.

Feel free to copy me as needed, and if you have questions, just ask. Though, this is not a DIY since I didn't take pictures of the process.

But the big difference is that the ''second floor'' sit directly on the wheel wells, which gives you 1.5 inch more head clearance. Also, this setup is easily removable from the bed, I alone can do it, you just have to take off the rear plate (which is not fixed), and pull the rest out.

First, you have to do the main frame. I have used cheap bungie ropes to do the separations between the compartements to keep the weight down:





The frame shall fit firmly into the bed once the door is closed.



Then, you can setup the rest as you like, but the general idea is to have access to all of you bed. All of the hardware I used is available at home depot.











Final cost was approximatly 120$ in hardware (canada). I have used 3/4 thick plywood, so this is very solid.







Edit: added a third handle to lift up the rear plate. Also, I'm currently out of bracket to secure the rear plate carpet (like the fwd ones), so that will be done tomorrow.

Well... if you use a design similar to mine, you will probably get a lighter setup, so you'll save some tenths of a MPG in town, so that's just a good reason to build a new one

 

this is my setup .75'' ply with marine carpet it is not heavy just difficult for one person to handle
