Any chance you know (or anyone) the difference in the inner pivot location for the tie rod compared to the Tacoma rack? Im assuming the rack is longer so the pivots would be pushed further towards the wheels. Unless that's corrected by like Solo for example

That is corrected. You will lose some turning radius. But overall width is corrected on them.

Stellarbuilt also had studs shear on their 74weld portals in the donut rubicon video on YouTube.

I'm my opinion, portals are stupid unless the entire suspension is designed and built around them. If they are just bolted on they cause way too many other issues and don't really make your truck wheel any better than if you put $20k into other mods instead. Actually probably worse.

I wanted to build my center mount 4wd setup around front portals with no rear portals, like the AWD trophy trucks, but they were too expensive.

Eh, only until your seals blow out. Seems to be a common issue.

I used to see a company out west that would sell front bumper standoffs to build your own prerunner bumper. I thought it was SS built but I guess not. Anyone know off hand?

There is literally no other options lol. Even if I could vouch for JD’s work, I still wouldn’t recommend a slide rack. I was still wiping out factory racks. That leaves the tundra rack. Again, unless you’re down to build something yourself. But it’s certainly not a small undertaking.

JDFab Slide rack installed in March of 2021 with a brand new OEM rack and a Howe TC pump.....still going with no leaks after years of abuse in Johnson Valley and Ocotillo Wells.

Late 2020 for me with a new aftermarket rack. Replaced rack last year due to seals and then had my issues with the clevis due to my abuse. I will flaw JD on not fully welding the clevis and probably could have used thicker material for some of it. But slide racks/rack savers have been used on prerunners for a long time

Seems to work for some and not for others. I went through 3 racks during my short time with the slide rack. 2 1/2 years I believe. Then the welds failed.

I don’t think there is a point to be honest. If it were me I’d just do everything I could to seal the rack ends up. Biggest rack killer with the slide rack setup is dirt/water intrusion because it’s not sealed.

We came up with a pretty cool split seal setup that also doubles as additional support on the wife’s truck. Along with 2 different grease fittings. But I’m not sure it would work with the slide rack.

Bring some real BS into the thread — anyone here familiar with late model BMW / Mini Coopers ?
Just replaced the evaporator for my girlfriend’s car, and I think I may have mistakenly rotated the steering shaft, a full turn or left something unplugged…

Unnecessary for these trucks and 98% of people who have upgraded their rack.

As @906taco alluded to, Tundra racks fail at the seals not physical breakage.

Looking for some rear bumper options to go with the McNeil bedsides for 3rd gen Tacoma. Was leaning towards the Kalil fab Jet rear bumper. Dirt King doesn't make a 3rd gen rear bumper. What other options are you guys running?
