3RZ: It's not obvious why the #1 cylinder filled with coolant

Well, you jinxed me. I got it running (well), went about 10 miles up the freeway and turned around. On the way back the gas pedal went to the floor and I had no throttle control so I coasted to the next off-ramp. It looks like the throttle cable broke because it was touching the EGR valve. I might scavenge the cruise control and cables off of the Tacoma that's not running, or get a new cable, and try to fix it on the side of the off-ramp.

ETA: Got it fixed and drove it home.

I certainly don't wish to jinx you. Congrats on getting it running!

What do the valves stems look like thru the head’s exhaust ports?

I don't know. But I took the head to an automotive machine shop to get it checked out and ended up getting about half of a valve job because several of the exhaust valves were a skosh tight.
