I was pleasantly surprised at how capable the stock truck was when I was running passes a few weeks ago. The small size made stuff like Schofield Pass seem easy compared to the overlandy Gladiators that struggled to negotiate narrows or tight turns. I did take a few LCA/skid hits though, and one to the trans crossmember in a rock garden that was described as "impassable in a stock 4x4" by some internet rando.

I should probably give the truck a closer inspection. The factory skid cracked from being smashed against the LCA mount.

lol, yeah, these trucks kickass even in stock form. the bigass 4 door jeeps and other trail clogging trash weigh twice as much and struggle a lot more comparatively even on their bigger tires....and the owners of those trucks act like they just witnessed a biblical miracle when you scramble something their $80k fridge gave them fits over :D

you gonna replace that factory skid? mine didn't live long either lol

my budbilt skid was a good purchase, though after almost a decade of abuse it is definitely feeling the pain. can't install it without a floor jack and bfh to coerce it into approximately lining up lol

I'm trying something different. I've got an aluminum skid on the way from Element/RA Motorsports: https://ramotorsports.ca/collection...uminum-front-skidplate?variant=39532974211169

I've got some 1/4" UHMW I'm going to try to use as a skin. I'm wondering if I should have gotten 1/8" but here we are... I can buy more if needed.

That should give me plenty of protection for occasional ground contact while still keeping things lightweight--only 29lbs for the skid plus a few pounds of plastic and fasteners.

Apparently his other grill broke too or failed, and seeing as how he's grilling nearly daily, getting this one 'upgraded' was the best way to go

The half barrel it had was really small so didn't allow for much wood or coal

For sure. The plate should be here by the end of the week, at the rate I move it might get installed by next summer.

Hopefully it'll go on easy, but I'll probably overthink how to do the skin.

Are you planning to run any trails this weekend? Some wheeling plans could be good motivation.
