First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Yeah, Subaru has gotten a bad rap as a lesbo car. I'd say up here in the Noth West they are super popular, about as many of them on the mountain roads as anything else.

Mine was a 1982. Back then they had PT 4WD and a 4low also. The suspension had adjustable height. There was a "third eye" off-road light that opened up by electric power from behind a secret panel on the front grill.

Chris4x4 and I beat the crap out of that car. It did anything and went anywhere.

My best and favorite story was the time we had come into possession of a WallStreet Journal newspaper box - the type you put a few quarters into and the door pulls open and you take out a paper. Anyway, we wondered how much cash was really in one of those?

So, we loaded it up into my Subaru along with some guns and beer, it didn't fit so well and hung out the back, so Chris4x4 sat back there and held onto it. We made our way through the city of Phoenix AZ out into the desert. Driving down a road (forget which) North of Bell road. That road ended, and there were all kinds of signs with flashing lights saying "road closed ahead". But the road was really there, it was just that the road was still being built, so it was really a big long mound of gravel at this stage.

Of course I drove right through the barriers and on down the gravel, which was deep, and we started to slide around - given that we were also driving ridiculously fast.. eventually the Subaru spun sideways. Yes, the car was still traveling down the road, but was facing sideways - Chris4x4 was still in the back end with the hatch open and this big heavy newspaper box dangling out the back. The Subaru eventually realized it was facing the wrong way and began going forwards again right off the side of the road and down a 6-8 foot embankment. It came to rest nose down into deep gravel off the side of the road. Ouch!

Well, my co-pilot Mike and I got out and started digging the car out with our hands. Chris4x4 wandered off, presumably to smoke and settle his nerves (a routine he frequently repeated when out with me). So we soon forgot about him, until...

We say these gig ass lights approaching. Something big was coming up on us. Probably law enforcement -oh well, at least I'd get the car out. But it was Chris4x4. He had requisitioned a loader (large ass earth moving equipment) that was being parked somewhere along the road construction - and Chris4x4 carried a "one size fits all key".

He literally picked up my Subaru with the bucket. Just scooped it up and plopped it down back up on the road.

Wow. Amazing. I carried those earth mover dents in my bumper for the rest of the life of the car and it always fondly reminded me of that night.

Oh, and one more thing. Chris4x4 grabbed my SKS assault rifle and tried to shoot the lock off the newspaper box from 30 feet away or so, but come on - that was an impossible shot. So he got up really close and went medieval on that thing. He nailed the lock with a well placed .762 round and it blew apart.

Wow. We had about $3 or $4. Almost the cost of the ammunition. Or the beer (we drank really cheap beer back then).

    Ahhhh. The memories.

And be warned, this sounds like a pretty outrageous night, a once in a lifetime "I'll never do anything like that again" experience. But believe me it was far to common of an experience with Chris4x4. I'm glad that both of us survived ourselves and didn't kill anyone (I'm aware of anyway) and neither of us live that way any longer, but it was some crazy times bro.

    Cheers!

Nice to see ya pop in here Dwight! LMAO!!! That was a crazy night! It wasnt an embackment, but a 20 foot deep sewer ditch.

My Personal Fav was when we hacked into the intercom at Sears and began playing Metalica in the store :p

Agreed. That was so much fun. We repeated that over and over and over. We made animal sounds also, remember. For some reason Mike and I liked to make sheep, goat, dog, and other animal sounds - weird?

And the Sears security of course thought someone was on the intercom (which they were, just not from within the store - we had it rigged so you could call into a certain extension and get it) so they would run around trying to figure out which employee inside the store was on the intercom.

We would mess around with them. Knowing they suspected me, who knows why exactly they did?, I'd get on a call with a customer when the sounds started and then as they came running up to my station thinking they'd caught me red-handed I'd hang up as the sounds continued. To see the look of confusion and shock on there faces. Ha ha.

And customers seemed confused also, the sounds of fake animals, the heavy metal music. It was so weird. So fun.

Certainly it became a favorite activity around the apartment to relieve boredom. Just call up the store and have some fun... of course after you'd sent all your friends down there 1st to enjoy the show.

Too bad they apparently discovered the method of our access (after months) and disabled that capability.

Oh well, there was always taking all the lug nuts off a shoplifters abandoned getaway car, to bad his grandma came to get the car - ouch!
