83 ft lbs is for a lug nut. Actual bearing nut? More than my wrench. Last time I set one I took my breaker bar, stood on it, and bounced.

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm taking off the security nuts asap and never took off the wheel.

No just the nut that holds the wheel on. I'm taking off the security nuts. I would of tried right first cause of the way the wheel spins.

Gotcha. All lug nuts are normally threaded.

you don't torque security nuts. they're there to prevent theft, not hold the wheel on.

Maybe they are out there, but I've not seen a LH tread on a wheel stud / lugnut since something out of the 50's. An they were only on the RH side of the car.

i believe single-nut wheels are reverse threaded to prevent brake forces from unthreading them. but anything equipped with those are far and above the price point of a tacoma.

My 1970 340 dodge dart had left hand thread on the drivers side only. There was an L stamped into the end of each wheel stud just as a reminder. Because passengers side was right hand thread.

Ok. I'm taking the security nut off and putting a normal one on. Then I need to torque it.

pretty sure hes removing them & throwing them in the trash where they should be...
Hopefully he's replacing them with similar lug nut to what's remaining on there...

Literally the only people that care about those things is the fuckin finance guy at the dealer who's trying to tack on an extra $300 before the car goes out the door. Nobody else cares

Customers never know where the key is, it's just an obstacle for the tech trying to take the wheels off

Thanks both! Yeah, this was just the issue I had. Actually I knew where the key was, but before asking me where it was the mechanic searched through my whole truck looking for it.

You should. Toyota says you need to, and they also say it should be the 2nd in sequence to be tightened. (No idea why?)
