Is there a proportional relationship between the amount of travel in your bike's front fork and the amount of lift in your Tacoma's suspension? Let 120mm be the base line stock Tacoma. Social scientist wants to know...

I don’t drive a Tacoma but I have bikes ranging from rigid (gravel bike) to all mountain trail (160 travel fork) and no lift on my truck. I have a 120 fork on my fat bike and a 150 on my hard tail.

The panel of experts declares 150 on a hard tail equals 120 on full. So you're at the base line for that bike. Same with the gravel bike. Data conforms to original hypothesis.

HOWEVER, 120 + fat bike is under review: it might be a non-conforming data point if you have zero lift. Probably depends on the type of truck.

I also have a rigid gravel bike, 120mm XC bike and 150/160 e-bike haha. I had a 170 enduro bike but sold that for the e-bike haha. No lift on my Tacoma though

For those of you with I-9 Hydra hubs, how long did you get out of a set of bearings? Mine didn’t even outlast the tires. I’ve had plenty of I-9 1-1 hubs that have performed great, I went for the hydra on my ‘nice’ bike build and, from what I’m seeing, they seem very inferior.

I’ve got 760 miles on mine according to Strava. Including 50 in a backcountry race that rained half the time and destroyed the brake pads and scratched have the paint off on the heat tube from the bar bag

I might just have a crappy set…. Bike has 540 miles on it and the bearings feel like there’s sand in them. If you slow roll the wheels, they will grab and stop the wheel.
This bike is a trail bike, rarely sees rain, is transported under a cap and stored indoors. My fat bike has 900 miles on it, rolling on cheap Bear Pawls hubs and sees mostly snow, sand (ocean beaches so salty sand) and mud. Disappointed in I9 with this set. I’ve had other hubs, 1-1 and Torch that seem to be doing great.
/rant, ordered new bearings and will set them up properly greased and see how long they last.

I think ive had my purple set of Hydras since 2019 - only thing I've done was clean and regrease the pawls.

That’s super unfortunate for how expensive they are. I havent taken care of mine and they feel solid still. I haven’t even greased them even though I probably should grease the pawls. I feel like I remember @backcountryj doing some service on them at some point though. Don’t you need a special bearing press or puller or something like that?

I9 make specific bearing press things, but I bet I can find a socket that will work also. The bearings look fairly easy to remove based on the YouTube video I watched.
I reached out to I9 and sort of gave them a WTF. I was polite, but told them I’ve had several sets of 1-1 hubs that have been abused and still running great, these are supposed to have better bearings yet they didn’t even outlast a set of tires. They said they updated the axle and freehub just after I purchased mine so they’re sending me some new parts for free! He said the updated parts are all for the rear hub and asked about the front. I told him the front is toasted also, we’ll see how they respond.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Maybe they used a different bearing supplier or something? Their has to be a reason both of yours are failing.

I think they’re just shit bearings and weren’t greased. The bearings had some rusty looking grease bleeding out so they’re clearly not stainless and the seals didn’t do their job. I’ll pack the new ones before installing and keep grease on top of the seals to help keep water out. None of my other bikes are having this issue and they all see far worse conditions. I’m a little disappointed but I’ll rebuild and move on. If they give me trouble again, there will be DT Swiss hubs on that bike in pretty short order!

Who's got some swanky MTB stem suggestions?

Changing some colors up on my bike, looking for a raw/silver stem in 50mm.

If you want swanky, check out I9, they’re pricey as all hell! One Up are nice but they are bulky. My favorite is WeAreOne Da Bar setup. It’s not flashy but it’s sleek and low profile.

    not enough.
not an unknown problem. the hydra 1's are known to eat bearings in certain scenarios. i've had to replace mine recently. same as another buddy of mine. fortunately, it's fairly easy to replace bearings.
