People often learn the hard way, despite mental preparation. Ask me how I know ...

"The first thing you need to know will likely be the last thing you learn" ... that I picked up from another post in this thread.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Slowly but surely, we're getting there. Got all of the build garbage and overflow stuff out of the shop area, swept the floor. Yesterday we brought dad's table saw up from storage. This morning I set it up and tested it. Aside from the on / off switch being constantly on, it ran smooth and the blade is square. Gotta love old stuff that works as it should, even after sitting for 13 years.

I had an older version of that saw for 40 years. Ditch the fence and buy a decent aftermarket fence and it completely changes the saw. Replace the switch with a padel style switch.
    My old craftsman saw.

For now, and simplicity, and sanity, I found a replacement switch for the saw. I've seen a few fence ideas, but, again, status quo. We need to focus on getting the house done, which is why I brought it up.

I did pick up the Harbor Freight 2hp dust collector today. $80 off made it hard to pass up when FB wants that or more for older used stuff.

Question. I didn't realize we had two different walnut stains, special walnut and a dark walnut. I uses the special walnut on the range hood and then found the darker walnut stain. If I sand the top coat of the lighter (special) walnut down, would it be a bad idea to go over it with the dark walnut? The dark walnut is the preferred look over the other.

Ok almost done except for the dog holes. I had a bent or warped, router, bushing, how does that even happen? I guess a manufacturing defect. I cracked a piece of Formica earlier in the week and had to re-order one for the top. I really love the 3-D printed edge protectors for the aluminum extrusion. Thought that was a nice touch.

might not be considered "optimal", but i think this would work. for oil-based, i've done something similar to a door trying to get the best color match, and it didn't get all weird or flaky or anything. not really sure if it's water-based though. you'll probably know pretty quick once you sand and apply the darker stuff if it's gonna "hold". :)

I think I'm going to try the test area inside the hood. Sand it down a little and try it there. That area will be covered by the exhaust fan so it's a fairly safe area to try.
