Its definitely more better with brakes. I picked up a spare wheel cylinder and a big bottle of brake fluid in Montrose before heading down...ya know. Just because.

I had a small disaster. I think I over filled the ATF reservoir on the lift. It shot red juice all over the place when i lowered the BMW the other night. Fortunately not my eyes.

This is what dripped off carpet that was on the fucking dolly that was next the lift. o_O

I'm well into my 50's and still rolling around on the driveway I applaud you for that dream and for making it happen. Only those of us who are lifelong wrenchers will get just how life changing a shop space to call your own can be. I've have a 2 car garage that barely fits a corolla and I consider my self very lucky to have that.

Off to a good fuckin start on the BMW. Sheered two exhaust bolts, and one for and exhaust support.

That’s what happens when you have all the leverage when standing under the car.

Many years ago when I was a young apprentice in 2006 I did this to a 2002 E46 that would eventually become mine.

I spent hours trying to drill it out.

My boss came back, told me to get the torch and his air chisel.

He got them cherry red, and blasted each bolt out. Took 5 minutes.

    Appreciate the tip!

It was no five minute job, but it worked once i figured out the mapp torch.

I thought ahead to buy 4 new flange nuts, but didn't think to get some spare studs so those will have to be ordered.

This thing is absolutely coated with oil underneath from the front of the engine to the tail housing on the trans. Almost as bad as that piece shit marlin crawl box i had in my truck.

Exhaust is out. I'll get the engine supported, drop the drive shaft and then a start pulling the transmission tonight or tomorrow. Need to borrow a high jack from the neighbor. Might even drain it and get some fresh oil in it. Doubt its been done before with 140k.

    Progress!:muscleflexing:

I decided today thats its even cooler to sit than stand. Gonna need to get to those pesky bolts on the top of the bell housing and don't want to be on my tippy toes stressing my poor calves. Been scooting around all afternoon and havent smacked my dome once!

    20250830_170949.jpg

Also...version 1.0 of engine support failed immediately and slipped of the LCAs. Utilized some old winch hooks for V2.0 and it's more better.

Add insult to injury. The bolt in question is already broken loose and 98% backed out. I had the socket it on it earlier but didnt back it all the way. Apparently. I thought i had it all the way out but it's just a few threads hanging on.

The starter took some convincing with a hammer and 2+ feet of extensions to let go of it's hold on the bell housing.
