I’m on my way to Dallas currently. Finished school in reno and moving away. I’m going through all of Colorado next. From Durango up to Fort Collins all on small roads and hitting trails to cross mountains etc. then down through New Mexico unless I’m tired of being on the road by then.

I did Great Basin in March. It’s in middle of nowhere for sure. Was mostly snowed in though.
And yea burning man blows. I worked valet at one of the largest casinos there so during those few weekends every car is just playa dust allllll over

if anyone’s got suggestions for drive/hikes in south part of canyonlands im all ears. The more scrambling the hike has the more I like it.

Stay away from the slot canyons. This will NOT be the week to hike them.

That was my gut. I’ve been looking at any potential 4x4 routes and hikes trying to avoid anything that mentions crossing a wash/riverbed etc.

Especially solo vehicle I have to be paranoid about what I drive on

It’s fun hiking and biking in Moab in the rain when you stay high. Tons of stuff by Corona Arch. The San Juan’s are spectacular. If you’ve been in Reno the elevation shouldn’t bother you too much.

FYI. RLT uses Trav's Automotive in Midvale. Miles had no problem with that being known.

Trav is one of the Sandy Big O guys that left when Corey moved shop. He's legit, and he's touched my truck multiple times directly. 100% would trust him to do things right.

We did the Devil's Racetrack out there again a couple months back. Last year when we ran that trail it threatened to rain the entire time and we had constant lightening to really add drama to the trail and made for a great time

I love the back country in threatening weather... as long as it doesn't rain or you find a great place to camp.

One of the trails I was driving down last week was criss crossing a river and even drove up stream for a while and they had some heavy rain the night before. The water lvl was over 5ft higher than usual in several places judging by the water line and debris left behind. Definitely not a canyon you want to get caught in rain storm by

That'll tighten your gonads. Any water over a foot deep (more or less) can get dangerous depending on speed.

Did Buckskin gulch when I first moved to Utah in 2016. The ranger gave us a map with only the middle 0.5mi of 19 total miles highlighted. "If a flash flood comes, this is the known safe spot with high ground". But what happens if we are anywhere else in this map? "you could try running if it makes you feel better".

The sizeable tree truck jammed across the slot canyon walls 20 feet over our heads didn't make us feel any better.

Brings a mental image to mind... Picture a guy with a surf board getting caught as the wave starts to crash down the slot canyon and the only way he can survive is to ride the wave. And then the tree trunk looms in front and he jumps over it as the board goes underneath... and he lands on the board and surfs down the canyon into the distance...

Those kinds of places are where imagination begins and takes off.

Perfect idea for Point Break 3.0!

I did the trek with a pair of fellow rock climbers, and we were having a similar conversation about maybe being able to crack climb or scramble up some of the wall features to get to high ground. Then we saw how high the high water mark was, and we suddenly didn't feel as capable.

You need that thing Batman had. Shoot it over the top, hope it lodges on something, and then hope the motor that winds you up is faster than the oncoming flood crest.
