I recently bought a 04 Tacoma with a 3.4L manual and has 270 000 km on it. I’m Canadian eh! It had the frame replaced and is in pretty good condition. I’m somewhat handy. The clutch goes to the floor to shift and wondered what things to look for to trouble shoot? Thanks.

    Fluid level?

    Bad slave?

    Bad master?

Hi Bill, thanks for the reply. The fluid level is good. I’m going to replace both the slave and master. Not sure how to tell which one is bad. Hoping my clutch is okay. Thanks again.

Also check linkages especially at the pedal as that’s where travel adjustment is made.
Made that mistake of not tightening the lock screw once and it had backed off giving the same to the floor issue.
can you pump the clutch pedal and gain any pressure? Check that the float in the reservoir is there and not stuck to bottom. Missing float will allow air into lines and stuck float will stop or reduce flow of fluid.
As to leaks; check under carpet behind clutch pedal for oil stains and around slave cylinder for signs of seepage.

    Take a good look around...
Look at the master & slave for leaks...
Most importantly take a peak under the dash at the pedal assy, no idea if toyota uses a clutch pedal return spring or not...
If they do, verify its there & not broken...
Verify the push rods for the master is in fact still attached to the pedal pivot.

Have a helper push the clutch pedal while you watch the slave cylinder throw under the truck

If the slave is not moving the clutch fork very far then you likely have a hydraulic problem (master or slave or leak somewhere)

If the slave is moving the fork a good distance then you don't have a hydraulic problem, you have a problem with the clutch unit itself inside the bell housing

Sometimes when the pressure plate gets weak the release bearing will be pushing on the spring fingers but they just bend and it doesn't translate into enough (fulcrum) movement to release the clutch disc. Even though the clutch isn't slipping the pressure plate just gets worn out and weak

Thanks, for all the great advice. I’m going to try and dig into the issue(s) on the weekend and I’ll let you know what I find. Thanks again.
