So I'm noodling in the shop this morning. I've had an 8-port 3RZ core for sale on Marketplace that was overheated with a blown head gasket. The last tirekicker left me a little sick of trying to move this thing. I haven't pulled anything apart but I know the motor isn't seized and runs (rough). I started thinking this motor is in pretty high demand and not cheap anymore. What if I just rebuild it? Keep it for the next time I need it or even flip it for a little extra $$.

I know machine shop costs vary but I'd love it if those of you that have rebuilt this motor recently themselves could share their costs and possibly even where they sourced bearings, pistons and rings. Please share! Thanks.

    Here's the core for attention:

Thanks! Yeah, I've followed that thread and he was kind enough to add some of his costs and answer my questions. Was hoping to get a few more data points and options for quality parts sources outside LCE, though. Maybe I'm just bring lazy, too, and need to put together a spreadsheet of my own since I pulled the ads from everywhere but here and think I'll bite the bullet. Good winter project. Thanks for commenting!

Question of the day is how much are you asking for it.

$199 for what was pictured complete with oil pan, valve cover, fuel injectors, etc. And I told the buyer I would pallet it on a spare tire and load it with my skid steer free of charge.

Not any more! I'm building this one

I got my bearings from rock auto and pistons and rings from LCE
