What Beef said. I used to work for a chrysler dealer for about 11 years and with noises you cant rule anything out. Use to do the tape thing too, helped find a lot of noises that way. Open the hood also and check for loose pieces that could cause a high pitch vibration, just like when you hold a gum wrapper between 2 fingers and blow through it.

This doesnt pertain to this problem but we use to get lots of cars with creaking windshields in cold weather and it turned out to be the 2 little clips at the bottom of the windshield used to hold the windshield up in place after they installed it.

Another example not pertaining is where I work now one of the field service techs truck made a whisling noise while driving. Truck had roof mounted horns on it and boss had us remove those. Guy took and was back with same noise, ended up being the grab rail on the side of the cab causing it, so you cant rule anything out with noises.

My 1998 4Runner I traded in had a noise just like a dry speedo cable and sounded like it was coming from the front but since it didnt use a cable that was ruled out. Ended up being a rear axle bearing. Anyway I will shutup now ;) Good luck with the noise diagnosis.

Just thought of something else, maybe crazy, but could the wiper blades be causing the noise? Like I said, maybe a stupid suggestion, but could be worth a shot to remove the wiper arms and try it.

Ha ha No, its only 2009+ thats when NUMMI guys find out about move, Toyota cut corners and things went down the drain. Not counting wear and tear there are much more "problem" posts from 09+ then 05-08 :D

Seems to be looking that way more and more. This coming from a 97 4x4 5-spd previous owner now with an 05 4x4 6-spd. Maybe once they started their Scion builds.

    UPDATE

So since I have my arbitation hearing in a couple weeks with toyota regarding the windshield noise they wont fix, I decided to arm myself with more ammunition.

I called a glass company to come out and pull my windshield, install a new seal and sealant. My thinking was, if it didint fix the problem then I would have a professional glass company saying hey, even we tried to fix it and it can be fixed, at which point the solution would be for toyota to take my vehicle back and refund my money.

If it did fix the problem then my truck would be fixed and I would go to toyota and say "see how simple it is? $149.00 bucks and you would have had a happy customer and we could have avoided all this."

Well so far so good. I have driven it twice, yesterday in the wind and so far no noise. Not saying it wont re-surface again but it appears the probelm was corrected by doing what toyota should have done in the first place.

Also I went to another dealership to have my shock re-installed since I discovered it hanging off the lower mount, no nut or bolt.

Seems like more and more threads cropping up on toyotas poor quality and horrendous service or lack there off.

I had this issue in my 2005.
It was the doors and weather sealing on both sides.
It was caused by driving 60+ in a cross wind or headwind.
And this situation used to be quite frequent for me.

I would grab the top of the door and pull it "more shut" / inwards and that stopped the kazooing, until I let go.

Several trips since the new molding was installed no problems. I was inspecting the old seal and its easy to see that sealant was spotty at best. You can easily see the area where the vibration was coming from had no sealant.

It is very sad that you pay 30k for a truck with a warranty and the manufacturer cant spend 149 bucks to provide you with a product that performs normally.

Good job Toyota way to back your customers.

Same thing happened in my 2011.

Took it to the dealer, told them it was happening at 65-75 and to fix it. Bring it back with a full tank of gas and let me know what you find.

They said it wasn't sealed right and they would schedule a windshield crew who would come to the dealer and fix it.

I have a 2006 access cab and my truck does the same thing. I just deal with it. To much of a hastle to go to the dealer. It's definately annoying tho.

for everyone who deals with the problem, there is someone who legitimately wants to get it fixed but there's not enough heat on Toyota to make it right. For me, the breaking point was the 2nd time it happened. bragging to all my work friends about my new truck (I was driving a P.O.S. 94 explorer) I was ferrying a buddy to a Magic game in orlando because my job had corporate suite tickets and here's my brand new truck with 2,000 miles squealing like a stuck pig at cruising speed.

Make sure you have insurance that has a zero deductible windshield replacement (its law in FL) and drive the point of a shovel or post hole diggers through it. You were following a rock truck and something kicked off the road and caused it.

not to many, love it the way it is
    ^ nice truck!

would it not be easy to raise the seal/flap a tiny bit and add a good sticky goo under the flap and let it dry before driving. The OP said he used silicone and it did not stick and work well but rubber butyl may work better for glass. If the flap can be pulled up easily and a caulk tube tip applied underneath it then this should work yes?

It was mentioned a few times earlier in the thread.

What I think is stupid is having a truck with an obvious problem and just "dealing with it" while others struggle to get our warrantys honored.

x2 ... toyota can suck a dick in my opinion after not recalling every m/t t100 since they all have problems with the clutch bracket ... $260 later and im good but it puts a bad taste in my mouth ... and what really pisses me off is they only made 500,000 of these trucks and out of that number many were likely automatics.

WOW!! This blows!! I hope my 2010 doesnt start doing this. Good luck to all of you with this problem! I hope Toyota figures something out or geez just something gets resolved in some way. Ive been lucky so far 12,000 miles mostly Autobauhn in Germany at high speed and nothing yet. Id be a bit pissed about it myself. Ya its a truck and they make noise but.....seriously nobody buys anything willing to accept annoying shit! IMHO.

    Good luck guys!
