I think the goal was to bring the hose loop inside the diameter of the caliper so that the caliper will do all of the mud and snow clearing instead of the hose... Theoretically, seems like it should work.

Unfortunately, all they did was to shorten the brake line. As I stated above, the clearance went from 1/2" to approximately 1 1/2" (I have a 24 OR). The rubber line (length) is needed to remove the caliber for service. A better fix would have been to redesign the entire caliber/tube route. That will never happen because of $...

I never saw any pictures of the failed hose. Not sure if anyone else did either, but there has been lots of talk of the failure being caused by ABRASION due to build up of mud or snow/ice on the inside of the rim.

While abrasion may be the cause, I think it more likely that rapid flexing of the hose due to being hit by buildup on the rim one or more times per revolution is a more likely cause. The point where the hose enters the end crimp can be particularly vulnerable to flexing damage.

If flexing is the cause, wrapping additional abrasion resistant layers to the hose isn’t going to provide a true cure.

Perhaps that will be the long term fix. Mayhap in '27models and forward?

Probably. And if so, hopefully a simple purchase for self replacement.

Doubt. Warranty repair doesn't pay shit and unless it's something glaring they're not gonna actively seek out warranty stuff unless mentioned in the work order.

Not sure if this true, I don't know how dealers manage their billing rates but "upselling" and existing customer you already have in the shop (even if that customer is Toyota's warranty) seems better than waiting for another customer to come in and pay a slightly higher rate. Unless of course, you have paying customer waiting to get in.

I am sure that dealerships charge us much more per hour for non-warranty service than Toyota pays them for labor on warranty service.

I dont know how toyota does it but I can talk about this for days...
    Ford...
Every car that gets written-up the writer is suppose to add a free inspection to the repair order.
I was "the guy" in my dept, engine repair...
Anytime theres was any sort of concern that the lube guys or any of the techs found during an inspection like an oil leak, etc...
My cell would blow-up, get down here & look at this, looks like it has warranty, or customer pay, turn in a c/o...
Ide jump on it & run over to take a peak, as gives me the opportunity pick & chose my work as doing major engine repairs or engine swaps day in & day out gets old...
This is an opportunity to pickup some gravy or bob & weave a shit sandwich.

Depending on the scenario, if warranty upsell, writer calls customer, customer agrees & they can leave it, we add a line to the original repair order & we bang it out...
Sometimes management is in an uproar about too many warranty upsells screws-up the numbers ford looks at & pens us up to a potential audit.
So manager states no, tell the customer to bring it back, lets schedule you an appt...
The smart writers wont listen to the manager, close the current RO, & immediately just open another.

But no, if youre a good tech, paid or not, you dont go through your career with blinders on cuz you dont get paid for the free inspection & it doesnt effect you, im just looking out for myself mentality....
Those guys dont last & mind themselves down the road motors if management, writers, shop foreman, other techs, aren't oblivious to the attitude & pattern.

Someone scratches my back, I scratch theres, "come over & look at this AC job or leaking heater core"
    Writer needs a change order..

    Keeps things more efficient vs,
Writer having to call the customer & get them to authorize $xxx for a diagnostic fee for a new concern..

Ive diagnosed so many cars for free during upsells, it is what it is, but end of the day it pays off more times than not.

    Yes...
What the manufacturer pays the shop for warranty rate is less than customer pay labor rate.
But the techs get their same flat rate hourly pay rate, regardless if its customer pay or warranty..
My old co-workers right now are getting $52-$55 flat rate per hour flagged....
Service drive labor rate is $250 an hour.
Hourly flat rate wages vary from region ide assume...
In an 8 hour day, you can make 0 hours / 0 dollars if you do nothing, or 25+ hours in 1 single 8 hour day,
Depending on many factors, job selection, drive, work ethic, good coffee, work ethic, drive, ambition, attitude, skill, lack of distractions, focus, so on

Furthermore labor time standards are less on warranty jobs compared to book time on customer pay jobs.

How sure are you? When I worked at a Ford dealer a while back, the rate Ford paid the dealerships for warranty work was much higher than the dealership's customer rate. The problem is that "Techs" don't like warranty work because it's usually small simple fixes that don't pay THEM much. But rest assured, the dealership makes out just fine.

Sounds like you’ve had bad Dealer experiences…….

like I wrote earlier, it’s important to seek out and develop good relations with a dealer, a service manager, and a service writer……..and you “train” them on every visit……

I think I have 7 Toyota dealerships within an hour……not all get to work on my vehicles……….and yes, they all want Warranty work.

    Thank you.....
I laugh at some of the attitudes here....
Ill gladly pay that $100 for that oil change, one day when im out of warranty I may need to lean on them......
Im not lifting a wrench on this truck, ever....
& I dont need to prove that im still capable....

I can tell you all this job pays well and there's no encouragement to rush it. We do not dread this campaign.

Other campaigns like the tundra engine is nearly impossible to make money on, but we take the good with the bad.

This is far from the truth....
For the most part, there was nothing small simple fixes in my Ford dept, along with the majority of the other dept's....
Us as ford techs count on that warranty work, yes we get paid less but its also majority of our work, day in & day out...
If it wasnt for warranty work, we would starve.
