I’m thinking the root cause of my water pump failure was losing a blade on my fan throwing it out of balance breaking the water pump housing. (All bearings spun easily) also on what was left on the fan there were different colors on the broken pieces that looked like old cracks and new break area on 2 of the blades. I wonder if the 2 fan blades that appeared to have old fractured blades could’ve been from the engine used swap a while back.

Also the original cooling fan had 9 skinnier blades, the new one has 7 thicker blades which seems more robust.

I need to upgrade my suspension for sure. Gotta recover from this last hiccup and I think that’s next after diff oil changes and new spark plugs. Any recommendations on sturdy / durable suspension upgrades? I don’t really want to lift it just new/ better suspension

Unless you go with a very pricey custom leaf pack from someplace like Deaver, you will be into a lift.

I've been very happy with 5100s / 5125s on stock coils and RXT leafs (Option 1). It added 1.5in.

I’m pretty sure my son’s 2015 will outlast my 2022 and he’s got a 210k head start. That being said glad you did the work yourself. Can’t trust the kids at the stealership. What was the total vs what you were quoted?

they wanted a little over $8k for repairs and what they recomended. $5k and change was for repairs for the damage the rest was recomended.

I did the repairs and way more preventative work (changed all idler pulleys, tensioner, all front of engine hoses, transmission filter and fluid, rear diff oil, transfer case oil for about $1400.

but I had to pay $200 to get it out of the dealership and about 4 cases of beer to borrow my buddies shop, tools and extra hands

overall I learned a lot and am more confident to do more repairs/maint myself.

    all worth it.

I have had two water-pump failures and two fan-clutch failures over years on different cars going back to the seventies. Both water-pumps gave a warning and got loose and wobbly, started making a lot of noise underway and the temperature gauge started rising. Towed to the garage. Both fan clutches failed to free-wheeling mode. Not suddenly though. I noticed the familiar/initial full roaring noise after a cold start was no longer present, but foolishly dismissed it on the first incident. Failure symptoms were a climbing temp-gauge in a slow-moving traffic jam event during temps in the 90s, and the missing roar. New fan clutch was the fix Glad it didn't take flight and take everything with it. I have never seen a catastrophic failure like this one from the poster. The photos are amazing. Glad he wasn't poking around checking something when it let go. FWIW: If it leaked out the clutch fluid prior on mine there was no sign of where it went. (my cars) Both of them had at least 175,000 miles on them: both Volvos.
