My mechanic is positive that the above damage was caused by road debris, not a defective tire or aggressive driving; I will be getting Yokos again next spring, since they are the only OWL tire in the exact size I want…

The tear yes but the rotting is premature that you have on the others.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T TRUST PEOPLE!!!

The incredibly minor accident involving my girlfriend's '02 PT Cruiser and an old woman in a 2014 Nissan Maxima took place on the afternoon of August 11th. The damage to the Chrysler is virtually nonexistent, and the old woman admitted fault on the scene, so we decided not to call police or file a claim. The woman also told us that she had no intention of going through insurance to fix her car, either...

    THAT WAS A LIE!!!

Amanda got a letter in the mail yesterday from State Farm, saying they had been trying to reach her with regards to a claim. We couldn't get ahold of State Farm, and we ended up contacting USAA in case this woman was trying to shift blame. USAA says it sounds like the other woman was at fault based on Amanda's description of what happened, and recommended reaching out to State Farm.

She got ahold of State Farm, and the adjuster (also a woman) couldn't have been nicer. Turns out that State Farm has been trying to get back in touch with the woman for several days, and is refusing to tell her side of the story... o_O

My parents also agree that Amanda was not at fault, and helped her work on her statement for quite a while last night. She read this statement over the phone. The old woman has our insurance info, but USAA does not seem to have heard from her. I suspect confusion rather than malice here.

I would keep is short and sweet.
My statement would be along the lines of.

    "I was NOT at fault.
    The woman hit me.
I do NOT intended to file a claim with my, or her, insurance."

    That's it. NOTHING MORE.
    STFU....STFU...

No need to talk yourself into being at fault.
Trust me. Anything you say, can and will, cost you money.

Amanda gave her statement, and it was pretty much what you said above. What I can't figure out is why this bitch looked me right in the eye and lied. As stated above, this has really eroded my trust in people I don't know. My parents think it's possible that a relative influenced her to change her mind and contact insurance. If somebody hits my truck in a parking lot, I am calling the police and getting a report, even if my truck doesn't really have any damage and I don't intend to file a claim. I just want this to end. I have not formally filed a claim with my insurance company, but the guy I talked to seem to agree that the old woman at fault. I do not have collision coverage on the Chrysler since it's an $800 shitbox, just liability as required by law, and comprehensive (which covers non-collision claims like broken windows, flood damage, and theft; comprehensive was only extra $129 per six months, so if somebody breaks a window and steals the $300 stereo then it's already paid for itself!).

The ones you know aren't any better. Tooke me 38 years to learn that one.
    I'm 42 now.

You know that old saying, "If you could go back in time, and give your younger self advice. What would you tell them?"

Yeah, I tell my younger self, "Friends and family are no different than anyone else. Always expect the unexpected"

This is it. The guy who backed into my truck about 8 yrs ago lied right through his teeth claiming I rear ended him..impossible since my damage was the driver's fender/bumper/headlight all pushed in towards the center of my vehicle. The second the other insurance company started with that I simply said "I've given my statement and my photos to my insurance, here's the agent's name and number."

The above mentioned incident, the police officer actually said to me (I was the one who called) "just so you know this isn't our job".

I looked right back and said "first, the other driver refused to acknowledge me or provide his information. Second, I learned long ago always call the police so there's no BS and in case the other person isn't legal. Third, it IS your job".

You could be right about the mind changing, but regardless lesson learned.

The ones you know are as much if not moreso likely to backstab. Trust but verify I guess..

When l was young l lightly hit the rear end of a Chevy Citation, absolutely did not want to turn it into insurance as a young male with his own policy would explode in rates. Told the guy l would pay for his car out of my own pocket (fixed my car for about $40 total), anyway the guy suddenly turned into a super prick and claimed his car now needed a new exhaust system and a drivers seat as he said it completely broke free and was no longer even attached to the floor. He ran his imaginary repair bill so high to the point I could not afford pay for the damage and had to submit a claim, naturally got stuck with high insurance rates for several years after.

And the goddamn TPMS sensor snapped off, so my warning light is still on; I’m getting a new one one when I bring the truck in for an oil change in about a thousand miles…

Yet another backup camera has fallen victim to my side hustle, so I bought one that’s integrated into the license plate frame and should hold up better; I’m also probably going to need a new tailgate at some point…

I am never going to be fully retire from scrapping (especially if it's HVAC-related, as that is very profitable), but I have decided to be much pickier about what I agree to take, because the ratio bullshit to profits has become a lot more obvious with some items. Engine blocks are a prime example. That Hyundai engine block that my mechanic gave me a month ago ended up to doing several hundred dollars in damage to my truck. It was secure the first time I went to the scrapyard, but the goddamn scrapyard wouldn't take it unless the oil pan was removed. Without the brake rotors holding it in place, it slid around in the bed and bent my tailgate outward. Note only that, but the tailgate hung up on the backup camera and damaged that; I lost patience with the engine block and ended up just hacking away part of the oil pan with the SawzAll. Turns out there was a decent amount of oil in it, which made a mess of both my truck bed and the driveway.

The backup camera initially worked fine, and I thought I'd fixed it with superglue before we left for Virginia Beach. The one except is that the image was now reversed; I have no idea what caused this, but I was going to replace it based purely on the fact that it was backwards and I almost hit my dad's Yukon because it was so disorienting. I fucked up the tailgate again by attempting to force it shut with a full load in the back, and it bowed back out. This in turn fucked up the backup camera, severing a wire and rendering it inoperable; I bought the aforementioned integrated backup camera, which will be installed this Thursday.

I have also decided to replace the tailgate, and I am likely going to have my trusted body shop get one from a totaled truck, and paint it to match if necessary. This will probably be $500-$600; I am also thinking that this new backup camera will only be temporary, as I am considering doing an OEM-style tailgate backup camera. This will keep the camera up and out of the way.

My original backup camera, which was installed in September 2016, starting acting up in 2022 or 2023; I ultimately had it replaced. In 2023 or 2024, I guillotined my backup camera wire in an unfortunate accident at the scrapyard involving broken glass from an electric stove. My mechanic spliced the wiring back together and got it working, but it only lasted a few months. I had it replaced again, and this is the backup camera that met an untimely death at the hands of the engine block. This makes THREE (3) backup cameras since I started scrapping!
