New HU with Stock Speakers?

Per previous post, I have the non-JBL system in my 2011 Double Cab - and its just plain poor. And I know its the head unit that lacks in performance. Has anybody just swapped out the head unit and kept the stock speakers? I know they are not that spectacular either, but the would seem to have potential with more power from a decent HU.

 

if i were you man i would get a new HU and new speakers and an amp to power them. when i took out my old speakers they were horrible

 

im looking to do the same with my 2011 TRD access cab.

what would you guys reccommend if you could have ur dream setup with a medium budget?

amp, sub, door speakers, touchscreen head unit!

for the amp i love my hifonics 600 watt amp, speakers i went with the MB Quartz performance series, sub Image Dynamics IDQ10, touchscreen unit i have only heard of good things about the pioneers

 

I'm running a Pioneer double din head unit with the stock speakers. I have subwoofers also but I didn't change the door speakers. I have new ones sitting in my house waiting on me to put them in...just haven't had time. The stock speakers sound fine to me though.

 

i upgraded everything just for sound quality just need to get some sound deadening. when we replaced everythign we ran new wires for the speakers too

 

hmmm ya i was thinking on keeping my stock speakers. but wasnt sure if i would be disapointed. they sound decent to me.

 

what do you mean by sound deadening?

 

they sounded fine to me at first but when i replaced them and had them amped i was not happy with the sound quality of the stock ones

 

just like some dynamat but probably something cheaper i will probably go with secondskin audio. pretty much it just stops everything from rattling in your truck

 

I upgraded my 08 DC in stages.

Did the HU first (Pioneer single DIN) and kept the stock speakers. Was a great improvement over the stock HU in volume level and sound quality.

2 years later I added Pioneer speakers all around after the OEM speakers died. Was another big step up in sound quality (mostly in added bass ).

 

I upgraded in stages as well. I was surprised at what I got out of the stock speakers with a new head unit and a sub. Naturally after doing the rest of the system it sounded immensely better, but the meantime was a nice improvement as well.

 

I upgraded the headunit in my truck and my gf's truck, noticed a decent improvement in both with just the HU but after a while I found myself craving more sound so I went and upgraded the speakers in my truck and added a 10" sub. Best decision right there.
If a HU is all you can afford now, you'll notice a lot better clarity with an upgraded HU and stock speakers, but they just cant handle even the 50W of power the HU pushes them.
