The swap, or even opening it up, doesn't worry me.
I'm unclear as to any extra parts needed. (if any)
I see the bushing and an axle seal as add ons. Gear oil (I'll get my own).
Something about a solid spacer. (no clue).
And with or without locker? I think I know the answer.

I.E. Get it all back together and find out there was suppose to be a .0015" brass shim somewhere.

Dude 100%. Your build is rad.

    But

99.99% of people can't fathom building or fabbing or using their brains. They just want to buy cheap shit to look cool and then bitch when it breaks.

Yes. 4.88s or even 5.29s on 33s will feel like a race truck. On 35s.... Well..... You don't want 35s on stock 3rd gen gears.

4.88s have better engagement, and coupled with a tune, work just fine for 33s on the auto or the manual.

Solid spacer beats the crush sleeve.

Get the locker for the rear. Skip the front.

That is why you swap the complete pumpkin for one with new gears (all set up) and locker from ECGS. Budget some cash. Probably 4k per end with locker. I recommend the ELocker.

Brian, I disagree with this last statement. You will want a front locker too. Trust me...

I don't know anything about the back, either....I have the rear locker but 'should' anything be changed to compensate for changing the front ratio?, or is that not how it works?

Different switch. You can be in 4 Hi/4Lo open diff get stuck and then turn on the locker. Unless you are Dan, in which case I will suggest loudly that you turn on your locker. I used to play the game of go until stuck then start layering until I would get out. I don't play that game anymore. I really don't like getting stuck (even though I do it on a regular basis.) Part of it is I go alone so much and it takes a lot of time once I get her buried to get her out...

No one that went 5.29s wishes they went 4.88 but plenty of people went 4.88 and wish they went 5.29

only way id do 4.88 on the auto is if you are keeping factory tire size.

Any light pipeline style trails near Custer, SD?
Meeting a friend with an outback who is scared to break stuff..

Seen some people from our area have checked the area out!

I have been on family reunion trips but only did a climbing trip last time.

    Brian?

Sometimes maybe yes, sometimes maybe no. IF running a front locker, always carry a fresh CV axle and be good at replacing them.

That being said, if you're out in the bush solo or running through some seriously thick muck, then yes a front locker is a necessity.

But for 99% of Wheeling, I'm a big fan of being aired down and choosing lines carefully.

Front and rear need to be the same gear ratio, unless your tires are different sizes to compensate for this (if your name isn't Rick Pewe, do not do this)

Acts like a rear locker. Needs its own switch. Also good for breaking cv axles.

4.88 with 33s on the auto is just fine.

For heavy wheeling, 5.29s for sure will feel better, but there is that slight chance that shock loading your drivetrain does have a higher chance of breaking a tooth with 5.29s due to smaller size and less "surface" for engagement.

    Granted

Since we're not running KoH trucks, I don't think that'll happen to anyone in here

Scored some goodies off Facebook marketplace. No more crappy little Coleman tent for me.
This tent is so easy to setup and take down, though a different storage bag may be in my future.

Simmer down newt, Brian is who you/I/us were talking to.

I also prefer safe lines. I also push my boundaries. Mistakes are going to happen and that pushes learning forward. I purposely choose hard lines (except for mud. At least not on purpose. I hate mud.) Front locker, from my perspective is another tool to make challenging lines happen.

Edit: Already carry an axle, so...

285 is a lot smaller than a 35x12.5 in real life. And... I am not world renown for my packing skills, that is for sure.
