While every retailer online does offer them as laser cut, out of 1/4" thick steel, you still have to WIY which can alter flatness

I'd wager I saved a good $400 give or take based on what other places charge

Thank you for the detailed response! I'm looking to build some router table frames, dinning and patio table legs, rolling bases for equipment ( my table saw, band saw, jointer etc.) . It will be primarily outside, here in the desert only rains 3/4 times a year and I can roll it under the horse barn when it does. I use all my tools to the max same as my work table rn. I made it with replaceable top which I change out about once a year. I've been looking at 3 x 5' 3/8 top but they are like pricey. I'm leaning towards diy

Good info. You will need to find something that is " mostly" flat and can stay that way. You are working with wood, so that table doesn't need to be .005 flat.

I'll endorse the scissor car lift suggestion again...they the ultimate work table!

She ain't even done, just had to take her out and bolt it together to make sure everything is good so far.

In the above pics, the center assembly bolts into place the left and right sides. The long bracing is welded to the assemblies at each end. Makes for moving and transporting much easier as they're two 6' sections versus a single 12'.

For the heck of it I clamped down one of the 6' sections in preparation for tomorrow.

    20250904_181900.jpg

The left side of the brace will get welded to the assembly while the right side will get a tab welded in place for bolting to the center section. I'm half-tempted to leave the middle open since budget doesn't allow for a center wood shelf but we'll see.

@FLBAdrian is taking care of the wood top for this thing!

Since I only spend about an hour in the shop during the week (when the kid naps), I got the remaining holes drilled and tabs welded in place for bolting it together along with the horizontal bracing.

    20250905_161150.jpg

She sits right at 144" at both sides.

    20250905_160106.jpg

    20250905_160247.jpg

However, it's been tough managing the 6' sections on and off the table and I came shy of the 24" width.

At one end, I'm 1/16th" off.

    20250905_160318.jpg

Same for the 3' and 9' sections.

    20250905_160325.jpg

    20250905_160340.jpg

    And at the 12' section.

    20250905_160409.jpg

No big deal though, all the feet sit flat in my garage and the whole thing is straight and square.

Thinking Sunday I'll weld up all the tabs to the top horizontals that will hold the wood top to the assembly. Tomorrow I've got some stuff to cut but mostly just staying in and relaxing.

Harbor freight just put the bite on me to review a recent purchase. It was a very good product, so I gave them a great review.

Last week I needed to cut roughly 24" of welds. I wasn't expecting anything special, so I bought the 10 pack, figuring I'd be using most of the discs to get the parts separate.

These cut off discs are legit!

I only used a fraction of 1 disc to complete my project.

Get the 10 pack. You will have them for a long time.

Pic of the disc I used vs an unused one.

yeah, the discontinued warrior discs were more on par with what you're thinking for wear--about half the dust is steel, and half is the wheel. the hercules is really just as good as most of the more expensive brands.

the hf hercules flap wheels especially are awesome. nearly twice as thick as other brands, so they last about twice as long.

Is there a trick to cleaning up those flap discs after they start to glaze over? I feel like there is a lot more material than I am getting access to.
