yeah, i've looked into tower work--same with wind turbines. i don't mind rigging, heights, or working outside so much. but most of the pay rates don't top $40/hr at best, and i'd be away from home every single week, with many going multiple weeks/months on the road.

That's insanely low for so much risk. $40+ is easily obtainable in my industry and you ain't gotta travel.

I did do the whole traveling maintenance gig. $22/hr with $40 per diem (hotel paid for). It wasn't a cash diem, you had a company card. If you went over a little bit they actually never said a word. It sucked being on the road, but at the time it wasn't that bad of money and gave me experience to get where I am now.

Yeah it is low. Not sure about the benefits either. But still low.

absolutely agree, which is why i'm working in a nice shaded shop. for $75/hr, i've got no problem swinging like tarzan. lately, even finding any other $30/hr jobs around me, you'd think i'm demanding to become CEO...

"no one wants to work" lol. "no one wants to pay"...

A guy I work with now did tower climbing after he got out of the Army, he was a paratrooper so heights is no big deal to him. He made 30ish an hour 10 years ago and was the senior guy on his crew. Don't remember what his per diem were but he always did the most climbing because he was quick.

No thanks. I only go as high as a kitchen chair. I’ve never met the top rung of a ladder!

Although that's only $156k a year gross, so in a lot of areas that actually isn't great.

honestly, even $50/hr is still pretty low for the current economic conditions. average house prices in my area now START at $250k... i joke that i can barely afford to live where i do, just got in at the right time.

if i had to do it all over again, i'd still be living with my parents. perceptions be damned, this home ownership stuff is not at all what it's cracked up to be!

and believe me, if i was making $75/hr, my toys would be just a little nicer!

It’s more fun when it’s a ships mast in seas, or the peak of a steel bridge. :anonymous:

I went up to top a tree to take it down and realized I’m out of work if something happens. Decided to pay to have it removed… $500 later it was gone. The next week - Katrina. It would have fallen with the telephone pole and the rest of everything it was surrounded by. :annoyed: :notsure:
