Use a Rust reformer to kill the existing rust. There are many on the market spray on brush on etc...

Rust reformer instantly converts existing rust into a non-rusting, stable, black surface, preparing it for a new coat of paint. It chemically reacts with the iron oxide (rust) to form a solid compound, making the surface paintable and preventing further rust from occurring without the need to sand down to bare metal.

You're still going to want to change that 5 year old engine oil - oil breaks down over time, and that's a lot of time!

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    www.monstaliner.com

They have product you can use to protect the truck. Some even finish the whole truck. Good for the DIY person.

Mine was much worse I used almost all OEM parts and spent 12K or so to get it back in order. I did most all the work myself and got a guy to cut out the apron and weld in a new one. He also painted the fender and hood all for that 12K price. I'd imagine you're only gonna spend half if not less than that to get yours back in order.

If you're not in a rush wait for Black Friday and Toyota parts will be an extra 25% off.

I use this site https://autoparts.bommaritotoyota.net/ which gives you about 30% off the regular price... then on Black friday you'll get another 25% on top of that. Free Shipping too! Some things like the hood might not be able to be shipped but everything else you'll be stoke to have OEM.

    Good Luck!

Rockford seriously that is some great work! To go from busted to number one stunner like that. I have a ways to go but i sourced a hood from a bodyshop in Phoenix. Dude fixed a dent on the drivers side and sold it to me for 200 bucks! I got the latch and bracket to play nice and it all functionally works!20250908_191624.jpg
