Im kinda jealous ngl - ive always had a soft spot for those things. I’m pretty sure the engines are so light you can lift them out with your hands and put them on a work table to reseal

 

My work is wanting the transmission and driveshaft out of the shop. I guess I’m gonna have to clear up space in my trunk again

 

The engine takes up half the engine bay and the spare tire takes the rest lol.

People EJ swap them but I’d have to research that some more. In reality this will likely just get a manual transmission swap. The vacuum actuated 3 speed auto isn’t ideal.

 

A cheaper option would be the new FA24DIT found in the newer WRX's and upper trim on other Subaru models. Less maintenance and better oil filter location. They don't quite sound as good as an EJ due to equal length headers, but a solid engine. They can be had for less than $3,000. Much cheaper than finding something like an FA20DIT like my WRX.

Hah, I'm 35 and feel the same, even down to the music. Got to do some work to the stereo in the WRX. It blows dogs for quarters, so an amp and speakers are on the agenda.

The Taco has the JBL option with the little 8" sub and it is adequate enough to not mess with it.

Having been an audio snob, my taste has really opened up quite a bit to not so high-end shit anymore. The GX sound system is "good enough"

The garage has a premium setup though sans the bookshelves - I'll replace those later

 

The doors take 6 1/2 so gonna try just some Kickers to start. I know 6 1/2 aren't the greatest at bass so I will probably have to go with a single 10" sub. Not even sure on the brand. Want to keep factory HU as I loath aftermarket screens nowadays.

And yeah a 10" in a sealed box would be my preferred; sealed being more responsive and allowing you to easily flatten any peaks you get in your trunk

A smooth flat response is so nice especially when it digs down to 20hz (or lower)
