Supercharged engine rebuild

Rich fueling, safe timing, and a boost controller would be a great starting point, IMHO.

So initially the company who installed the sc did not give me the vf tuner, when I started this rebuild I got it back. Well we went to tune this thing the other day and we kept getting some sort of error code, I dont remember the exact code, but so we found out that our micro usb cord wasn't making full contact. I stripped the jacket back this morning and was able to flash the tune. Truck fired right up and she purred nice!

But, the charging system message popped up on the dash. Im an idiot and figured my alt was still good.. got a new alt and battery this evening, maybe tomorrow or the next day ill get around to it. Need to get the trans fluid level right before taking it for a rip

 

why would you think your alternator was bad? could be a connection

 

The connection was solid, the battery had 11.8v while it was running. I had a battery maintainer/supply connected to the battery for tuning and as soon as we took that off it didn't start, tried new battery before alt, same thing

 

Ig I could have been overthinking it, it could have just not produced enough power at idle, but also that alt had like 97k on it and was almost 10 years old

 

Wow what a rabbit hole....

If OP piled all the cash ( and time ) into one bucket I'd wager he could have bought a good 2021/2022/2023 with most of that.

Yes, I could have gotten a good used taco for what I've put into mine. I know. But I use my money to build my already paid off taco and to buy this tundra

I also appreciate this is not a forum or owner community where there are a lot of supercharged ("forced induction") applications.

As a result, there is a general lack of collective knowledge about this issue. In fact, I would describe it as a complete void of knowledge. I do not mean to be holier-than-thou or sanctimonious. I just wish to share what I have learned elsewhere.

And I still say this:
You cannot just bolt a supercharger on an engine, really any engine, and expect it to magically "work".

You have to tune the engine. Preferably on a DynoJet machine (aka chassis dyno) or a regular dyno stand. While data-logging and using software to reprogram the PCM for all the variables that are specific to your truck.

Your insite is much appreciated! I do plan on taking it to a shop that does dyno tuning, just have to find the time to take it there

 

Wideband O2's or EGT's, knock retard, and logging software should be included with any forced induction mods if you want to run boost and protect your investment. Otherwise, how do you even know what's going on to keep it away from detonation?

 

Yall do realize that Magnuson knows what they doing when they send a tune for these right? It’s not rocket science these motors. Hes not running the stock tune. Magnuson is a big company and isn’t gonna send you a hot tune. It’s a very conservative tune. If you want to change it up get a OTT tune for more power

 

Except you can. You do realize the 2nd gen’s had a Maggy blower that was Toyota branded and they installed and put the tune in and off you went. Took my local dealer 2 days to do and I just drove off.
