Mounted the bed bars. Need to buy some long bolts.

Woke up early for some reason.

I have this Saturday off as I'm covering next Saturday for another tech.
Now that the bed bar install is mostly done (just need long bolts to mount the HF case to the bars), I'll get the remote start wired up. Maybe also give it a much needed bath.
I was going to go with nut-serts but I think with bouncing on the rocks the weight of the box will make them pull out. I'll use 8x1.25 bolts and nylock nuts instead.

I have a nutsert tool but it only goes up to 6x1.0 and that's too small.

Maybe:

I think @TacoTuesday603 would know more about the strength of a nutsert than I would.

Up early for 730 DR appointment in Albany .Yearly Retina check - make sure they still holding together after surgery 9 years ago . I guess my slight double vision is a permanent thing . You get used to it . Close one eye and it goes away

 

I have a heavy duty Nutsert tool that goes up to a pretty big size. I can see when I get home but you can borrow it if you want and I have a bunch of big size Rivnuts as well. I used a lot of them in other applications including mounting my solid aluminum limb risers to my roof rack and they are solid as hell. they will absolutely have the strength to lock down your case. I can bring everything down with me when I see you for the pizza meet

Question for my fellow car enthusiasts.

Working on getting this thing as my "toy" car to cruise around in the Spring and Summer for fun. Not a daily driver. Miss driving stick, and deep down I'm a VW fan boy at heart.

I know there is collectable/antique car insurance for this thing, so wondering what you specifically have @bucktales, or recommend as a good company to go with.

 

If you put the rivnut in the rack and the bolt on the case side it would work fine. Rivnut into the plastic case wouldnt. Id go with m8 too

 

That's what I wanted to do, rivnut in the crossbar.

My cousin used to have a Buick Grand National, and he mentioned Hagerty but I think the company he had was a different one. Can't remember what it was called though.

Gotcha. Makes sense.

 

Never, ever had the FJ in the snow/salt. got caught in the rain a couple times. Bottom side looks like new.
Just can't justify paying taxes and insurance for a rig I drive a couple thousand miles a year.
Nova is a different story, cheap taxes and insurance.

 

Just went on Hagerty and did an online quote for the VW.

$467 for the year.

Not bad.

Grundy is also another classic car insurance company. Never used them. I use Hagerty for the Falcon.
