I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a smartcap but I’m hung up on the noise in the back for pups, I have a 40 mile (one way) commute to work each day which my dogs go with me, 10 of that is gravel road.

My fear is the unlined nature of the smartcap will reverb a lot of noise nonetheless bake in the sun. Anyone have experience (and photos) of how they attached foam board and/or carpet on the interior of their smartcap?

I know I can open the side slider windows going down the road (big dogs so they won’t fall out) but not sure if that would make a weird pressure difference and also be loud or uncomfortable to dog ears.

Lastly, thought I read on other post that dogs pushing from inside the windows through slider hole caused the hull wing door to open. Any witnesses thereof??

Get the foam board installation started and begin measuring, cutting, and gluing. Is it that easy. https://www.thevanimals.com/insulating-the-van

Yes, it will be a wind disaster back there. Have a friend drive, and you sit in bed with the windows open, noticing how you feel.

Links? Your dogs should be crated, which are tethered to the bed, in the back of the bed, for the safety of all. A quick web search: https://lifewithkleekai.com/ultimate-dog-crate-comparison-guide/

I think you are over thinking the noise factor, dogs put their heads outside vehicles all the time to no known to me negative effects. I see dogs all the time riding in open truck beds, closed tops, you name it, they all seem to enjoy the ride. Ask a Vet if you want a real answer. I'm sure they have an opinion that is better than most here on this forum.

As for the heat, keep them out of the back when stationary. No insulation is going to help in that regard. Please do not leave them in the back for any length of time.

Reflectix with carpet over it works well for keeping heat out. And you can cut it out for window shades.

That being said, black is a terrible color choice for a topper. Not sure wtf they call it a smart cap. More like a dumb, cap.
