Check your fire bans. In the states I've lived in, as long as you were cooking food, they didn't apply.

We lived at the edge of town once. We were city and behind our fence was county. Guy behind us had a roofing business. Burned mounds of shingles in the back yard - even during a burn ban. But he put hotdogs on sticks by the fire so the fire department couldn't shut him down. We tried every way to get him to quit. Eventually the Texas Railroad Commission got involved (strangely) because they were kind of a catch all department.

In my fire district, a burn ban meant a burn ban which included outdoor cooking. Law enforcement was dispatched to every call along with us and the fines started at $500 and climbed significantly from there. There's a reason for burn bans and they aren't enacted lightly.

After smelling it all day I'm hungry, the people around me are all hungry so the pictures are forgotten until I realize it's about all gone lol

When you have a 4000 acre fire because someone was grilling, you tend to take things a little seriously. Your hot dog isn't worth someone's home

I checked with the fire department directly during the fire ban....propane grills were allowed, wood and pellet grilles not allowed.

No it was meant for me and that's fine because I didn't say I'd ignore it either. I just said some places have an exemption for cooking food.
If they do, then you aren't ignoring the burn ban either, you are operating with in it.

Where I live now, we have burn bans and air quality alerts.
Some burn bans still let you cook, and there are various stages with increasing restrictions in each one. Air quality alerts ban all sorts of activities that go far and above beyond burning, like leaf blowers and gas powered golf carts before 9:00 AM.
