Definitely worth the visit, I'm only 4 hours away but had somehow never been. Gets very crowded in middle of the day but early mornings and evenings everything cleared out. A few campgrounds around, Mount Desert Campground was a bit more than the NPS ones but it was very nice and I'd probably stay there again over Blackwoods or the others.

I think it’s the politics, taxes, & over all price of everything that brings majority of the negative feelings/comments. It’s definitely not the weather & natural aspects of the state that’s for sure.

Yeah, I was trying not to go there. It's the truth though. Take away our weather and all of the incredible natural aspects and this place is the spokes model for what not to do with any state in 'Murka. Don't do it...ever. Look at CA and do the opposite and win.

Everytime I get negative though, I remind myself that I am an hour or two from the beach, SF, Monterey, Napa, Tahoe, Yosemite, redwoods, desert...places people come from all over the world to see and I can go see it whenevs...

I am very lucky. And probably the last generation of my family to be able to call this place home. The cost of living is out of control.

[rant]Yeah, I get it….trust me. Sounds like you’re able to keep things in perspective and focus on reality while still keeping it positive. That’s a good way to live. I know all too well about the cost of living in this state. Unless you’re earning a ridiculous amount of money, there’s no getting ahead or growing solid roots for future generations. So, those of us who are not dripping in extra income do our best to enjoy what we have while we have it before we’re forced to retire elsewhere. Hopefully when that point in time comes, CA will not try to keep its sticky fingers in our retirement as well.[/end rant]

I will end this by saying, I like the photo you submitted.
