I could only justify a hard tail for commuting and taking side quests on the way home. A lot of people in this thread shared their hardtail experiences and pushed me to getting the Spur instead.

For side quest, slow speed exploring, the hard tail is great! But I also have a fat bike with a suspension fork that fills that void. I also love exploring on the fatty, it’s a blast to ride.

also, new bike (shoes) day, is that a thing? Going to try these out for gravel riding. My Five Ten Hellcats are finally giving up. I’m on Freerider flats for all my mountain bikes, only have clips on the gravel bike.

    Yeah.
Those look pretty good. I don't ride flats, but I don't like road bike shoes on an MTB. Love my Kestrels, but I'd try these.

I have Kestrels that I only use on my indoor trainer. They are too narrow for me so i keep them mostly unlaced and only use the strap loosely. the Hellcats have a wider toe box and so do the Fox Unions. If you like the Kestrels, these may be too wide.
