I could only justify a hard tail for commuting and taking side quests on the way home. A lot of people in this thread shared their hardtail experiences and pushed me to getting the Spur instead.

For side quest, slow speed exploring, the hard tail is great! But I also have a fat bike with a suspension fork that fills that void. I also love exploring on the fatty, it’s a blast to ride.

also, new bike (shoes) day, is that a thing? Going to try these out for gravel riding. My Five Ten Hellcats are finally giving up. I’m on Freerider flats for all my mountain bikes, only have clips on the gravel bike.

    Yeah.
Those look pretty good. I don't ride flats, but I don't like road bike shoes on an MTB. Love my Kestrels, but I'd try these.

I have Kestrels that I only use on my indoor trainer. They are too narrow for me so i keep them mostly unlaced and only use the strap loosely. the Hellcats have a wider toe box and so do the Fox Unions. If you like the Kestrels, these may be too wide.

Airspring are cheap. Let me know if he is a buddy I can work with him on the price to help offset that. I bumped my other 34 to 140 and love it

Meta can’t go SS can it? I love the hardtail single speed life- it’s like yoga and if I’ve only got an hour get a way better workout with it I would 100% do a short travel bike if I was doing anything geared. My 429 is probably my favorite bike right now but the 120 rear is so lively and capable it makes everything more fun. Heard the same about the spur @backcountryj

I’m not familiar with the SS conversion, but I’ve gathered it’s just a freehub. That being the case, I don’t see why the Meta couldn’t be a single speed. I have absolutely 0 desire to have a SS, but I’m sure it’s possible.
I see SS riders in the wild from time to time, the terrain I typically ride would just be an absolute beat down. Too many steep and punchy climbs. It could be done, but I’m not that much of a masochist (I have the gravel bike for that).

you either need horizontal drop outs, which i doubt it has off hand, only dirt jumpers really do or a true single speed. otherwise look up reverse components, they make a kit, basically a chain tensioner. they are sweet.

The Meta does not have horizontal drop outs so you’d need a tensioner. Or, hear me out, keep all 12 gears in tact and you don’t have to change a thing PLUS you can choose the best gear for the terrain :boom:

Something to be said for super clean SS setup. At this point in my disabilities I'd do like a 3 spd with a Zee.

Project 911 is complete and has been tested. It's not a flipnidaho rig until it can take a bike.

sooo purrrrdy; I've been looking at some options, I'm still too "new" and not doing crazy DH stuff but I have noticed a difference between shoes I do wear on how well I "stay" on the pedals; so far my favorite is my favorite trail shoes that are dead for running but mostly good for this; I've thought about taking off what little nubs are left. I'm a fan for not having laces out for running too so it's a win win here.

odd angle from the go pro today :p

they often have some good prices; I got an extra pair of shorts from them

I am tempted to go all out and get the Five Ten Freerider Pro BOA Shoes -- they are too new to go on sale any time soon...but I have $40 at evo and potentially 15% off as well... or at least 10% from Backcountry...
