Once again proving why I generally hate dealerships. There are plenty of good mechanics but they seem to be few and far between at dealerships, really a roll of the dice. I’ll take on any project I can in my driveway, really only down to alignment and wheel balancing that I need a shop for.

I don’t disagree and there’s a ton of stuff I will DIY, but I didn’t feel like asking my buddy to drag over his welder to fight the plug. I had the fluid and the pumps and hit the brakes on the project.

It doesn’t help I have a general dislike of fluids, and I’ve had a bad run laziness.

I need to borrow my buddy’s motivation. He just finished frame swapping his 91 K5 Blazer. Fully refurbed new to him frame, an LQ9 out of a Silverado SS he threw a better cam in and headers and set it up to run on HP Tuners. He’s in the break-in and shakedown period now. With 3.73s it is going to rip.

I had no problems with mine either. They were certainly better than OEM.

Material was too thick for the step drill and I didn’t have the exact size drill bit. Went with M10 bolts, washers and Nylock nuts.

So the battery died on my wife's Highlander. The car has the annoying Start/Stop system, so it's a different type of battery. Apparently when they go, there's no warning? It started fine this morning, then 3 hours later, click click click cccccccc..... Usually there's a warning like a slow crank for a day or two before it quits.

Or does it have a second battery that is part of the autostop? Not sure about Toyota but I've heard of some having that

I don't think there is, but I'll look into it. I swapped out the battery, and it fires up normal now.

On F-150s with auto start stop, the only difference in the battery is Ford requires it to be AGM.

The hybrids like mine have a little 12v battery under the back seat that runs some functions as well - it's about the size of a motorcycle battery. But those don't exist on the non-hybrid trucks.

I guess Toyota can use either AGM or EFB. If the voltage dips below a certain threshold, the S/S system is disabled. Hers isn't a hybrid though. I always turn it off when I drive the car.

My wife’s JGC is dual battery and she got an alert the other day about it. It shouldn’t impact the normal operation but I’m keeping an eye on it. It’s the original battery(ies) so I’m sure I’m on borrowed time.

ESS batteries are weird overall. My Mom had me replace the one on her Forester preventatively, so I replaced the silly expensive OEM EFB Subaru one with an Interstate AGM. That battery lasted two months. I assumed it had a dead cell or something and replaced it again at Costco with another AGM which died two weeks later. I went to an Everstart AGM and sent it into Subaru to get checked out as they had a known parasitic draw issue. Subaru replaced the Everstart (which was effectively brand new) with one of their EFB OEM batteries on their dime and reset the dealer installed (by them) aftermarket remote start and I got through two weeks.

Ironically the OEM replacement Subaru battery then failed and was replaced under warranty, but it got pretty ridiculous pretty fast.

How invasive is it day to day? I remember having one as a rental and it didn’t seem bad as you could modulate it with the brake pedal it seemed. The Jeep’s is absolutely ridiculous. I will pull into the driveway, come to a stop and I don’t even have time to get it into park and it shuts off and immediately jerks back on once it hits park. I’ve had it shut off backing out of a parking space going from reverse to drive.

It's not that aggressive on the Highlander. Seems the car has to hit a certain distance and/or speed before it'll active at the next stop. I can make a complete stop at a stop sign and take off before it activates. At a red light, I can just let off the brake slightly and the car will start up again and stay running until the next stop.

Oh, and the wife just told me the car has been sluggish to start the last couple days

The start/stop system uses the same battery. The starter now has a maint. reminder that will pop up telling you it's time to replace the starter (unsure on mileage).
